# Anxiety

*Unresolved distant paths leave one foreground cord loose in a calm marsh*

Anxiety and excitement are the same energy. It is not that you get rid of the energy; it is that you feel it in the way indicative of how you look at it. When it feels dark and heavy, a built-in belief somewhere in your consciousness has defined what it represents as negative — so the way through is to ask why you believe the energy is negative and choose to believe it brings positive information. The unknown feels scary only because of your society's definition of it; when you know there is nothing you could discover about yourself that cannot be applied positively, the unknown becomes ecstatic. Relax the judgment and anxiety turns into excitement and laughter — laughing at the fear is itself the act that lightens it.

## The same energy, two definitions

Bashar's central teaching on anxiety is that it is not a different feeling from excitement — it is excitement filtered through definitions that are out of alignment with your true self. If you are excited, you are filtering your energy through positive beliefs; if you are anxious, you are filtering the same energy through negative beliefs. The work is therefore not to suppress the feeling but to find and release the definitions that are distorting it.

The reason this matters practically is that anxiety is a reliable signal. When an action is truly done out of alignment with your true self, the feeling you feel is not excitement but anxiety; when you know you are acting out of anxiety or to fill an emptiness within you, you know you are doing it for a negative reason. The path is to find out what the negative belief is that would generate those feelings, change it, and let it go — and then you will find that you no longer have those intentions or those feelings.

## The fear of investigating anxiety

Bashar identifies a specific, pervasive reason people avoid looking at their anxiety: they are afraid that if they investigate the underlying belief — lack of self-worth, lack of self-esteem, non-deservability — they might find out it is actually true. The teaching is emphatic that it is never true: the very fact that you exist is proof that you deserve to exist, because creation does not make mistakes and there are no superfluous creations. Once you are grounded in that understanding, it no longer matters what negative belief you uncover — you will know it is just a belief, just a definition, and never empirically, fundamentally true.

What happens when you avoid the investigation is a recognizable spiral: when you choose from anxiety and are afraid to find out the reason, you gloss it over, go into denial, and feel an emptiness because you are not including a part of yourself holistically. That emptiness then drives you to fill the hole from outside or to dull your senses rather than to face the anxiety — which only tightens the loop.

## Anxiety versus genuine excitement

A clear definition of excitement is what lets you tell anxiety apart from it. Genuine excitement is always self-empowering and always that which is best for all concerned, not just yourself; the wish to harm or force another comes only out of anxiety and fear, never out of real excitement. The greatest power requires the gentlest touch — if you have to force yourself on someone else, that is actually an indication that you do not believe in your own power. The desire to harm or control is therefore a reliable marker that what you are calling "excitement" is anxiety wearing excitement's label.

## The no-worry chart: a single question

For ordinary worry, Bashar offers a compact decision tool: the "no worry chart." For any situation, ask one question — is there something you can do about it, yes or no? If there is something you can do, do it and do not worry; if there is nothing you can do, worrying will not help, so do not worry. When you have done what you can and it is what it is, there is no need to keep focusing on it or worrying about it.

## The "so what" mantra and giving back stolen beliefs

Much anxiety is sourced from beliefs you picked up from family, friends, and society that no longer match who you prefer to be. Bashar's vivid framing is that holding on to such beliefs is stealing — you are "belief thieves" carrying what does not belong to you. The instruction is to give those beliefs back and create your own, the ones in alignment with who you know yourself to be. Paired with this is the "sacred two-word mantra": so what? If all that is, in its infinite wisdom, knows you are absolutely necessary to its being all that is, then what do you care what anyone else thinks? Stop rejecting yourself and you will stop drawing reflections of rejection — and if a little anxiety appears here and there, so what?

## Practical implications

Treat anxiety as excitement mis-filtered, not as something to suppress. Ask which definition you hold that is turning the same energy dark and heavy; the relief is in releasing the definition, not in eliminating the energy.

Investigate the underlying belief rather than dulling it. Avoidance creates an inner emptiness that drives outer filling or sense-dulling; honest self-exploration is presented as the path of least resistance.

Apply the no-worry test. Can you do something about it? Then act. Can you not? Then worrying changes nothing. Either way, worry is not the useful response.

> — The No Worry Chart (qa-1), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/the-no-worry-chart)

Give back beliefs that are not yours. When anxiety traces to definitions inherited from family or society, the remedy offered is to return them and create your own aligned beliefs, reinforced by the reminder that your existence is proof of your deservability.

These teachings are metaphysical framing of inner experience. They are not a diagnosis, treatment, or substitute for medical, psychological, or psychiatric care. Anxiety that is severe, persistent, or interfering with daily life warrants support from qualified health professionals.

## Representative passages

Why not simply transform it into excitement instead, by letting go of those definitions that allow you to experience your excitement as anxiety, because that's all that's happening — you're filtering your excitement through definitions that are out of alignment with your true self and thus experiencing your own energy of excitement as anxiety. That's how that works.— Bashar,

If you're excited, then you're filtering your energy through positive beliefs. If you're anxious, you're filtering the same energy through negative beliefs. If this is exciting to you, why are you choosing to hold on to beliefs that don't serve you that you bought into from someone else?— Bashar,

Basically, the idea is, if you have a situation, is there something you can do about it, yes or no? If there is something you can do about it, then don't worry. If there is nothing you can do about it, don't worry.— Bashar,

That's not excitement. You have to know the difference… Because the only way you would want to do that is out of anxiety and fear.— Bashar,
