# Contracts & Agreements > Pre-incarnation agreements set general themes rather than fixed life scripts, leaving specific partners and career choices to the free will of the physical personality - Canonical: https://sassani.app/topic/contracts-and-agreements # Contracts & Agreements *Two hands hold separate ends of a woven cord that passes through an open adjustable clasp* Before incarnation, in Bashar's teaching, the soul agrees to general themes with other beings — the broad shape of what it intends to explore. The specifics of how those themes are lived are created anew each now by the free will of the physical personality. Two layers of free will are always at play: the higher consciousness's, which from inside the physical personality can feel like predestination, and the physical personality's own. The higher only fixes the broad theme. Within that theme the personality has broad latitude, including multiple possible partners who could serve the same agreed-upon lesson. ## The one contract everyone has When asked directly what a person's soul contract is, Bashar gives one answer for everyone: "Your soul contract is exactly the same as everyone else's: be yourself as fully as you can. All the different things people do are not really the things written in the contract… The contract is the same for all of you: to be yourself in the way you were created as fully as you possibly can. The forms — career, partner, project, location — are styles, not clauses. ## Themes are pre-set; specifics are created now A contract may exist as an ongoing agreement with someone, Bashar says, but "it only manifests in the most generalized terms. The free will of higher consciousness fixes the broadest themes (and from the physical personality's vantage can feel like predestination); the free will of the physical personality decides how those themes are lived. Bashar's chess analogy: if you want to play chess you agree to a certain kind of board, certain pieces, certain rules — otherwise it isn't chess. In one exchange, a woman who chose abortion is told that the being who represented her child knew her decision in advance and only wanted to "stick its toe in the water of physical reality." Nothing happens by accident; the being still exists, still loves her, and chose to help her experience what she is examining. Bashar's stance is carefully two-sided: humans are simply not consciously aware that they have, on a spirit level, made an agreement for the experience to aid another civilization. "This does not excuse the idea of what might be perceived as very curt or uncaring behavior on their part." A natal planet symbolizes a chosen life theme, an energy you carry easily or are challenged by; it is not a place you lived or a deterministic influence. "It is a symbolic reflection of what you chose to experience as your themes of exploration in your incarnation on Earth. Death cannot cut one short, except by conscious suicide, which is the one way a being can remove themselves from a contract — and even then, most likely, once they realize what they have done, they put themselves right back into the same situation. The pre-set part is the theme you came to explore and the being-yourself-as-fully-as-possible that every contract shares. The form — work, partner, project — is your choice within that theme, and more than one form can serve it.
