# Death And Afterlife

*One contemplative person notices similar blue-silver details across an ordinary path, a resting place, and a waterside reflection*

Death, in Bashar's teaching, is not a wall that ends communication — it is a change of state that often makes communication easier, because the barriers the physical personality maintained are no longer in the way. This chapter draws on the Yardsticks session, where two audience questions — one from a daughter with unfinished business with her deceased mother, one from a sister asking whether she would meet her reincarnated brother — let Bashar lay out a practical philosophy of how the living and the dead actually continue to relate.

## You are your own medium

Faced with a daughter who wanted someone else to channel her deceased mother so they could "have a fight and clear it up," Bashar's first move is to refuse the middleman. "You are the conduit through which all information can go to anyone, anywhere, any when. All you have to do is think of the individual, send the message, and it will on some level, at some point, be received."

> — Yardsticks (qa-6), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The instruction is to sit in a relaxed, meditative state, be the child again, and re-walk the whole scenario in imagination — because in that state you are interacting with her energy directly, and what was unfinished can be equalized.

Two reframes do the work here. First, death shifts perspective: "when you physically leave the body, your perspective on many things changes quite abruptly," so someone who seemed unreachable in life is now willing to communicate and resolve what was between you.

Second, the living person is the channel — especially for family. "You are the medium. You are the channel, especially since it is your family. Do not give your power over to others as being able to do something you cannot do for yourself."

> — Yardsticks (qa-6), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Seeking a professional medium for your own family member is, in this framing, a disempowerment: the connection already lives in you.

Bashar also offers a concrete permission slip for the work: think of daffodils, which "can help invoke a particular frequency to allow you both to imagine carrying out this conversation in a beautiful green plane of flowers."

> — Yardsticks (qa-6), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The flower is not decorative; it is a frequency cue that helps two consciousnesses meet in a shared imaginal space.

## The barriers come down; messages come through synchronicity

*A translucent reed screen separates two ordinary waterside spaces where similar unmarked objects appear*

A second exchange — a participant whose father had passed and who felt the connection had grown stronger, not weaker, after death — lets Bashar describe the mechanism by which the deceased communicate. "Now that she is no longer physical, some of the old barriers no longer remain in the way of your communication."

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Death does not weaken the relationship; it removes the resistance that was in the way.

But the deceased do not always communicate in the form the living expect. "When individuals are no longer physical, they do not always have the ability to communicate in the way you think they ought to, so they may gently nudge you towards something that will deliver the message for them that still exists in your physical world — like a book, like a painting, like a picture."

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The message arrives through synchronicity — through objects and events in the physical world that the deceased can nudge toward you because the direct channel does not work the way a living body would.

The test for whether something is a message is the meaning you find in it. "Synchronicity is all there is. All events are interconnected and messages can come from any direction in any way. The way to understand that it is a message is to recognize the degree of meaning that it has for you, that you have put into it. If it has that meaning for you, it is synchronicity and it is the message you need."

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Meaning is the validator — not the form the message takes.

And the relationship itself is recontextualized: "what you typically have thought of as a death day is always a birthday as well."

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The same date that marks a passing marks, from another angle, a beginning.

## Reincarnation and giving space

The session's other afterlife question concerns a brother Bashar had previously said reincarnated eight years ago. The sister asks whether she would meet him again in this lifetime. Bashar declines to be specific, and the refusal itself teaches something: meeting is not "in your basic energy motivation" right now, and specificity would not serve.

> — Yardsticks (qa-24), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The reasoning is about the new life's needs. "You do not need to be aware of the physical presence of this person, because for now the things that person is learning as the new person they are does not have the time or the room to make the connection with the other life they have had."

> — Yardsticks (qa-24), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

The reincarnated consciousness is engaged in being the new person; forcing the old connection would crowd that. The guidance is to give them space and send love: "Send your love. It will always be felt and it will be used in whatever way that individual needs to use it."

> — Yardsticks (qa-24), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Connection is not lost — "You are always connected in whatever way you need to be. You always communicate many times in dream reality"

> — Yardsticks (qa-24), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

— but the form of the connection respects the new incarnation's freedom to become itself.

## Practical implications

Be your own medium for your own people. For family in particular, the teaching is that the connection lives in you, and outsourcing it to a professional medium disempowers exactly the channel that was already open.

> — Yardsticks (qa-6), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Use imaginal rehearsal to resolve the unfinished. Sitting quietly and re-walking the unfinished scenario in imagination — being the child again, meeting the parent's energy on "a beautiful green plane of flowers" — is presented as real communication, not fantasy.

> — Yardsticks (qa-6), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Expect death to lower barriers, not raise them. The session describes the post-death state as one in which old barriers to communication no longer remain; relationships often get clearer, not fainter.

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Read synchronicity, not form. A deceased person may nudge messages through books, paintings, or pictures rather than direct voice. The test of whether something is a message is the degree of meaning it carries for you.

> — Yardsticks (qa-8), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Give a reincarnated soul space, and send love. Connection continues in dream reality, but the new life needs room to become itself. Love sent inward is always felt and used.

> — Yardsticks (qa-24), [Source](https://sassani.app/source-transmissions/yardsticks)

Note: this is Bashar's metaphysical framing of afterlife communication and reincarnation, not a claim of verified mediumship. Treat it as the teaching, not as medical, legal, or clinical guidance for grief.

You are the medium. You are the channel, especially since it is your family. Do not give your power over to others as being able to do something you cannot do for yourself.— Bashar,

Now that she is no longer physical, some of the old barriers no longer remain in the way of your communication. He was there, enjoying every minute. Synchronicity is all there is.— Bashar,

When individuals are no longer physical, they do not always have the ability to communicate in the way you think they ought to, so they may gently nudge you towards something that will deliver the message for them that still exists in your physical world — like a book, like a painting, like a picture.— Bashar,

Simply give them space. Send your love. It will always be felt and it will be used in whatever way that individual needs to use it.— Bashar,
