DMT & the Pineal Gland
The pineal gland is described as producing DMT the chemical vibrationally linked to perceiving other dimensions with external substances treated as permission slips rather than requirements
Bashar treats the pineal gland as a physical antenna for non-physical perception. In his teaching, the pineal gland produces dimethyltryptamine (DMT), and DMT is the chemical component vibrationally linked to the ability to perceive other dimensions and other levels of consciousness. This makes the pineal gland the bridge between raised frequency and expanded perception: as you raise your vibration, the gland's DMT production rises with it, and you become able to see into dimensions that were previously outside your bandwidth.
What the pineal gland actually does
Bashar's framing is mechanical, not mystical. The pineal gland is described as producing a specific substance — DMT — whose function is to vibrationally link consciousness to other dimensions. When someone raises their frequency, they simultaneously raise the "vibrational resonance of dimethyltryptamine production in the pineal gland," and the result is expanded perception. He tells a questioner who had a spontaneous psychedelic experience while listening to him that what she felt as a vibrating pineal gland was this process in action, and that "it will become a more common symptom, the more of you ramp up your frequency of energy."
The implication is that experiences people often label as anomalous — visions of energy, spontaneous shifts in perception, feeling the pineal gland "vibrate" — are, in Bashar's view, natural side effects of a rising baseline frequency rather than pathological or merely chemical events.
External DMT as a permission slip, not a necessity
Bashar is explicit that taking DMT externally is not required. He classifies any substance or practice that opens perception as a "permission slip" — a tool you use to give yourself permission to be more of who you already are. Yoga, meditation, music, and psychedelics all play this role: they show you what vibrations and abilities you already contain, then ideally fall away.
The same principle applies to the visions people report from external DMT. Bashar's instruction is to treat the experience as a demonstration, not a dependency:
Any teacher or any teaching tool is there to show you what vibrations and abilities you already contain. Thus then, you don't necessarily need the substance again. It is telling you that you have the ability to trigger that frequency within yourself anywhere at any time you wish.— Bashar,
The end state he points to is being willing to give yourself permission to be who you are without needing any permission slip at all.
Remembering is being
The more precise instruction Bashar gives for reproducing a DMT-like state without the substance overturns the usual distinction between memory and experience. He says that remembering what it felt like to be in a vibration is being in that vibration: "You are in that vibration while you remember it." The only thing that makes a person think they have to do something extra, he says, is a definition — the belief that remembering a state is not the same as being in it.
This reframes the work of integrating a psychedelic or expanded-state experience: the integration is not a process of chasing the state again but of dropping the definition that separates the memory of the state from the state itself.
Practical implications
Raise frequency through the Formula, not through the substance. Because Bashar links pineal DMT production to raised frequency, the path to more open perception is the same path he always teaches: act on your highest excitement to the best of your ability with no insistence on a particular outcome. The DMT response is framed as a symptom, not a technique.
Treat psychedelic experience as a demonstration of capacity. External DMT (or any expanded-state experience) is to be read as evidence of a frequency you can already reach internally, not as a unique event that requires the substance to repeat.
Do not make a medicine, sacrament, or requirement out of the substance. Bashar's permission-slip framing is explicit that the goal is to outgrow the tool. This is guidance, not a medical directive; nothing here overrides medical, legal, or clinical boundaries around psychoactive substances in your jurisdiction.
Question the definition that separates memory from state. The practical lever Bashar offers is definitional: if you treat remembering a vibration as being in it, the gap closes.
Representative passages
“The pineal gland produces the substance many of you are familiar with called dimethyltryptamine, or DMT. DMT is the chemical component that is vibrationally linked to the idea of being capable of perceiving other dimensions and other levels of consciousness. So as you amp up your frequency very often, you will amp up the vibrational resonance of dimethyltryptamine production in the pineal gland, which allows you to see into other dimensions. It will become a more common symptom, the more of you ramp up your frequency of energy.”— Bashar · Four Laws Of Creation
“If you remember what it felt like to be in that vibration, you are in that vibration. You are in that vibration while you remember it. The only thing that makes you think you have to do something extra is that you have a definition that remembering the vibration is not the same thing as being in the vibration, but it is.”— Bashar · Four Laws Of Creation
