# Expectancy vs Expectation

The key distinction in following your joy: do what excites you most for no reason other than that doing it is representative of the joy you already are, with zero expectation of any particular outcome. Expectation — insisting the result arrive in a specific form — puts a condition on your joy and stops the process; at high frequency even a small deviation freezes the whole. Expectancy is the open knowingness that reality will follow your shift, without dictating how.

## The three-part key

Bashar frames manifestation as a three-part harmony: intention, action, and the absence of expectation. Intention gathers the beliefs, emotions, visions, and thoughts that define what you prefer. Action grounds that intention in physical reality, because you are a physical being and must "act out the scenario of the vision you see in your mind" in order to become the vibration that can attract the reality. The third ingredient, paradoxical because it seems to cancel the first two, is "total lack of expectation that it must come out in the way you saw it."

This third ingredient is what allows manifestation to work rather than what makes it work. The universe already operates by an automatic mechanism that knows how to manifest; the work of the participant is to plant the seed (intention plus action) and then get out of the way — to stop imposing the unconscious definitions that stand between the person and the reality they prefer.

## Why expectation blocks the process

The transcripts give a precise reason expectation blocks manifestation. When you insist that a wish arrive in a particular form, you import unconscious definitions that limit how it can arrive. The physical mind "is not really capable of imagining all the ways that it could come to you," so the insistence shuts the doors on every route the higher mind could otherwise use — including routes that would deliver something greater than what was first envisioned.

A psychic photographer in one session reports that the images had stopped coming, though nothing excited her more. Bashar's answer names expectation directly: "It is the expectation that causes the blindness, because if you are doing it in order to get an effect, you are putting a condition on your joy, and that stops the whole process." The instruction is to do the work because doing it is its own reason — not because of the effect, not even as a technique to relax in order to get the effect, because that re-imposes the same condition. At high frequency, he warns, "it does not take very much deviation to stop the entire acceleration. The smallest speck of dirt in a high-tolerance machine will freeze the entire mechanism."

## Expectation as insistence on a form

A useful definition surfaces in a session with a writer who had finished a book and felt an undercurrent of pressure to get it published. "By expectation," Bashar clarifies, "we mean insistence on something working out in a particular way — things will always come to fruition, just not always in the way your physical mind thinks they should." The issue is not whether the thing will happen; the issue is whether you allow the higher mind to deliver the true manifestation you need, or whether you constrain delivery to the form your physical mind has already pictured.

The same distinction applies to body and healing. In a session on persistent physical experience, Bashar's instruction is to "drop the expectation. Trust that it will change in whatever direction it needs to change if you have used up the reason that it was there to begin with." The persistent experience is met by asking what purpose it serves rather than demanding its timing or its form.

## Prediction, sensing, and attached detachment

The distinction clarifies why a strong sensing can be accurate without being a prediction. There is no such thing, Bashar says, as a prediction of the future; a sensing is accurate for the moment it reads, but factors can change — sometimes because of the very awareness of the sensing — and the next moment no longer applies. The helpful stance is what he calls "attached detachment": know what you sense, hold it loosely, let the changing factors change.

This connects directly to his broader rule against predictions. The future is not a fixed object being foreseen; it is a present energy being read. Insisting on a specific form for that energy — expectation — is exactly the stance that makes the reading less useful, because it freezes both the reader and the energy into one channel.

## Practical implications

The practical guidance across these sessions is consistent. First, when you act on what excites you, do it because the doing is representative of the joy you already are — not as a means to an effect, and not even as a clever relaxation strategy for getting the effect, because any condition on the joy stops the process. Second, when a wished-for outcome arises, plant the seed with intention and action, then drop the demand that it arrive in any particular form; let the higher mind deliver the true manifestation, which may exceed what you first pictured. Third, when a persistent experience (a body symptom, a stuck pattern) is present, ask what purpose it serves rather than demanding when it will leave — "what is understood and used has no reason to remain." Fourth, treat your own sensings and intuitions as accurate readings of present energy, not as fixed predictions; hold them with attached detachment so changing factors can change.

## Representative passages

Intention, action without expectation, is the major key by which you create your reality […]. This third ingredient, after intention, after action, is total lack of expectation that it must come out in the way you saw it. […] when you place an expectation, usually, the way you have been taught to in your society, upon a wish that you have […], you are actually taking unconscious definitions, definitions you're not aware of, and you're limiting how it is that that reality could actually manifest. […] So by placing a certain expectation that it must come out exactly as I saw it, or it won't be right, is actually limiting the way it could come out even better than you imagine.— Bashar, Monologues (monologues#text)

The secret, the deep dark secret of doing what you love to do, of doing what excites you the most, is to do it because that is what you love to do without any expectation of a particular result. It is the expectation that causes the blindness, because if you are doing it in order to get an effect, you are putting a condition on your joy, and that stops the whole process. […] Remember that now you are operating on high frequency levels; it does not take very much deviation to stop the entire acceleration. The smallest speck of dirt in a high-tolerance machine will freeze the entire mechanism.— Bashar, The Council Of Nine Codex (the-council-of-nine-codex#qa-1)

Do you understand that the expectation, and by expectation we mean insistence on something working out in a particular way — things will always come to fruition, just not always in the way your physical mind thinks they should. […] if you actually insist on it coming to fruition in a particular way, you actually close the doors to all sorts of other ways it could actually come to fruition because you're placing conditions and limitations on how your higher mind could actually deliver the true manifestation that you need.— Bashar, Motivational Mechanism Expectations Overcoming Challenges (motivational-mechanism-expectations-overcoming-challenges#qa-1)
