# Government

Bashar's consistent reframe on government is that you are your government. Separating "us" from "them" perpetuates the very structure being complained about, because the institutions are doing the job the collective created them to do. Taking back self-responsibility — and communicating with those institutions daily from love and equality rather than accusation — is the path to change.

## "You are your government"

The teaching starts from identity, not policy. Bashar states it plainly: you are your governments; there is no separation unless you choose to continue to look at it that way.

When someone asks what activity they can take for peace, the answer is to recognize that you are equal to your political, social, economic, and religious institutions — and to communicate with them daily, not chastising or judging, but with love, compassion, and equality, letting them know you prefer peace.

The signed closing Bashar suggests — "Your loving equal" — captures the posture the teaching asks for.

The same reframe appears in answer to worry about an increasingly malevolent government taking interest in a fringe subject: "You are your government, after all. Do not separate yourself. Be your government, act responsibly as individuals, and together in a loving way, co-create the system that you prefer."

## Bashar's civilization: no government

For contrast, Bashar's own civilization is described as having no government and no religion. They recognize themselves as the creators of their reality and take responsibility for what appears in it. There is an organization — what they call the association — but it exercises no governmental power over anyone; it is undertaken freely, creatively, willingly, and is of service.

The implication is that government as Earth knows it is a training arrangement for a civilization still learning to take responsibility for its own creation.

## Build parallel systems; do not fight the old

When asked what to do when political events feel out of your hands, Bashar's instruction is to develop positive parallel systems rather than tear down the existing ones. Become involved in peaceful, constructive, loving activity; reinforce the positive elements across cultures; create the new systems with imagination, behavior, and action. Then, when the systems already in place — incapable of surviving under their own weight — collapse, new systems are already there to take their place. The work is to be a shining example of what the world can be like.

This is the same principle applied to "restoring democracy": the move is not to repair the old system through the same frame that sustains it, but to embody and build what you prefer, so the manipulation system loses its footing and the old systems collapse while the new ones are ready to go.

Protest born of frustration is, in Bashar's framing, simply the same segregative energy wearing a different mask; transforming it means teaching the idea and gathering those willing to share it, finding commonalities that let you respect the differences.

## A distinction: republic and democracy

In one exchange Bashar draws a definitional distinction between a pure majority democracy and a constitutional republic as he uses those terms: a democracy allows an unlimited majority to rule but provides no basis for protecting individual or minority rights; a republic allows democratic voting while imposing constitutional controls on the majority to protect those rights. He invites the questioner to research the distinction rather than argue definitions, and to recognize that corruption within a republic does not invalidate the idea itself.

This is presented as a teaching about clarity of definition rather than as an endorsement of any earthly party or candidate.

## The deeper engine: belief in disconnection

Political events themselves are treated as neutral props. Bashar describes geopolitical conflict (the Iraq war, in the session) as a multi-move chess game over resources, staged many steps ahead — but the deeper engine driving greed and rapaciousness is the fear of lack born of believing you are disconnected from the infinite. Because no event has built-in meaning, how you respond to what happens determines its effect.

The political is therefore not separable from the inner: the same disconnection that produces personal suffering produces the collective forms that suffering takes.

## Practical implications

The practical orientation is concrete and non-partisan. First, communicate with your institutions daily from a stance of equality and unconditional love rather than accusation, letting them know what you prefer — a brief, repeated, loving statement is the suggested form.

Second, build positive parallel systems alongside the existing ones rather than fighting to tear the old ones down; be a shining example of the world you prefer, so the new is ready when the old gives way.

Third, treat political events as neutral props and attend to your response, which is what actually shapes the effect you get.

These are Bashar's attributed teachings on the inner and collective dimension of civic life; they are not direction for any specific electoral, legal, or political action, and nothing here should be read as telling you how to vote, organize, or comply with or resist any particular law.

## Representative passages

You are your governments. And if you do not prefer what is going on on your planet, do something about it. Because it's your planet, not ours. [...] Reinforce the positive elements in all the cultures and allow yourselves to develop parallel systems — not take down the systems that are there, develop parallel systems, parallel systems that are positive. Then when the systems that are already in place that are incapable of surviving under their own weight collapse, new systems will already be there to take their place.— Bashar, The War With Iraq (the-war-with-iraq#qa-2)

In the practice of recognizing that you are your government, your political, social, economic, and religious institutions, that you are equal to them, communicate with them. Write to them, every day. Let them know, not chastising, not judging, but with love and compassion and equality, that you prefer peace every single day.— Bashar, Basha Equality (basha-equality#qa-2)

Without admonition, without accusation, without demands, but from complete and total unconditional love, you communicate with them every single day. And you let them know that you prefer peace. [...] I prefer peace. Thank you very much. Your loving equal.— Bashar, Conviction (conviction#qa-10)

We have no government. We also have no religion. We simply recognize ourselves in that way as the creators of our reality and we take responsibility for what appears in it. [...] the idea of organization [...] which we call the association, but it exercises no governmental power over anyone. It is undertaken freely, creatively, willingly, and is of service.— Bashar, Contacts (contacts#qa-8)

The form of government called a democracy is what allows for the continuation of what you don't want. The form of government called the Republic is the only way to bring to light how the republic has been misrepresented. You cannot, as your Einstein said, solve the problem from the same level in which the problem was created.— Bashar, Democracy Saved (democracy-saved#qa-3)

You are your government, after all. Do not separate yourself. Be your government, act responsibly as individuals, and together in a loving way, co-create the system that you prefer.— Bashar, Basahr Monatomics And The White Power Gold (basahr-monatomics-and-the-white-power-gold#qa)
