# Higher Self

In Bashar's framework the higher self is the non-physical aspect of you that conceives what the physical mind perceives, and it never gives up on drawing you toward the truth of who you chose to be in this life. Rather than a separate authority you petition, it is the self you are aiming to become — the combination of goals, themes, and destinies you laid out before incarnating. Communication with the higher self is therefore the process of becoming it: acting as that self, not merely carrying on a dialogue with something "above" you.

## The loop: higher mind conceives, brain receives, physical mind perceives

Bashar describes a precise division of labor. The higher mind (the non-physical extension) conceives, the brain receives, and the physical mind perceives. The physical mind's perception then feeds back to the higher mind, which uses that feedback to become "as inventive as it needs to be" — through synchronicity and other devices — to draw the personality toward its truth. This is a constant dialogue, not a one-way transmission.

A central rule follows: the physical mind cannot do the higher mind's job. It is not designed to know how something will happen, and trying to figure that out will leave it frustrated and exhausted. You can feed back preferences, but you cannot feed back "how" — the higher mind already knows how will work best for you.

## The higher self as the ideal self of this life

Each life has its own higher self, framed as the ideal and natural self of that specific incarnation — what you are aiming for, the combination of themes, goals, and destinies you set out for the person you chose to be. There is a non-physical higher extension of yourself, yes, but Bashar stresses that "it is you" — talking to it is really talking as yourself, convincing yourself to move in the direction of joy, passion, and excitement, because that vibration is the true state of your natural self.

Thecrystallization path is one of integration: becoming the higher self in physical terms, then the higher self becoming the over-soul, and the over-soul becoming one with all that is. The work is to align intentions with actions so that you are not hiding from yourself or running from your fears. Bashar clarifies that "integrity" is fundamentally this alignment between intention and action — it can even be negative (negative intention matched by negative action), but positive integrity accelerates because positive energy is integrative.

## The higher self never gives up

The persistence of the higher self is underlined emphatically: it "will never give up" on drawing you toward your truth. When the physical mind refuses to pay attention, the higher mind gets creative. If absolutely necessary, it will get your attention through major life changes — what you call "accidents, which of course are not accidental at all." Bashar's framing is that you do not have to wait for the accident; the same guidance can arrive smoothly if you are willing to listen sooner.

## Destiny as a stream, not a script

Bashar distinguishes the general theme of a life (laid out by the higher self before incarnation) from the specific free-will choices of how to play that theme out physically. The theme is likened to a stream — the stream knows where it is going, and floating with it is the only way to arrive at the places you need to arrive at to do what you need to do. Fighting the flow is fighting your natural self, and "life is truly effortless when you go with the flow and don't struggle." The structure is created as you move along, not before you get there.

## One consciousness, not two

The sense of opposition between personality and higher self is itself a created habit. Bashar points out that thinking of yourself as a "lower" consciousness that has a "higher" consciousness invents two levels that can then seem to clash. Consciousness creates the negative ego, not the reverse; there is one consciousness, fragmented for the purpose of exploring limitation. The higher-self/physical-mind distinction is a division of labor within one being, not a war between two beings.

## Practical implications

A learner can take several specific things from this teaching:

Treat the higher self as a self to be acted as, not a separate authority to petition; communication with it is the lived process of becoming it.

Respect the division of labor: feed back preferences from the physical mind, but do not try to figure out how — that is the higher mind's job.

When the physical mind refuses to listen, expect the higher mind to get creative; smooth guidance is available now, forceful guidance is the alternative.

Trust the stream of your life theme; structure crystallizes as you move along it, not in advance, and struggling upstream against your natural self is exhausting.

Frame the relationship as one consciousness using two roles, not two selves in conflict; the negative ego is a creation of consciousness, not its source.

The framing is metaphysical. Bashar's discussions of illness (chronic fatigue, AIDS, asthma) in these transmissions are not medical direction; he repeatedly pairs any energy framing with practical, worldly actions (cleansing, oxygenation, visualization therapy) and reminds questioners they are fulfilling a reflective function for society, not failing personally.

## Representative passages

The higher self is in a sense the ideal self of any particular life you may have. It is what you are aiming for in this life. It is that which is representative of the combination of goals, of themes, of destinies that you have set out for yourself as the person you chose to be in this life. The idea of communicating with the higher self in any given life is, in fact, the process of becoming the higher self, of acting as the higher self, not just simply carrying on some separate dialogue with something above you. For it is you.— Bashar, Higher Self (higher-self#qa-1)

The higher mind will never give up. Never give up. The physical mind can't do the job of the higher mind. It's not designed to do it. So if you try, you will always be frustrated, tired, exhausted. You can feed back preferences. You cannot feed back how. The higher mind already knows how will work best for you.— Bashar, Your Higher Self Will Never Give Up (your-higher-self-will-never-give-up#qa-1)

When the physical mind sometimes refuses to look at something, well, higher mind gets very creative. It will get your attention one way or another. Even if it takes a big, big change in your life to get your attention, it will make that change for you, in a sense. It will bring you to that point of no return. Sometimes people experience this as what you call accidents, which of course are not accidental at all. But the point is, you don't have to have the accident if you're willing to listen sooner.— Bashar, Your Higher Self Will Never Give Up (your-higher-self-will-never-give-up#qa-2)

Destiny is like a stream and the stream knows where it's going and the point is if you don't float along with it you will never arrive at the places you really need to arrive at to get done what you really need to get done. If you fight that flow, you are actually really fighting your natural self.— Bashar, Higher Self (higher-self#qa-5)
