# Karma & Relationships

In Bashar's teaching, karma is completely self-imposed — it is not a cosmic ledger that punishes or rewards you, but a structure you set up for yourself in order to learn. Relationships are the arena in which that self-imposed learning most often plays out: the people you meet, the connections you form, and even the people who disappear from your life are all reflections of the vibration you are holding and the themes you came to explore. This chapter is grounded in a single session, Four Laws Of Creation, where these ideas are spelled out directly; it should be enriched as further transcripts that name this topic are processed.

## Karma is self-imposed, not imposed on you

Bashar states the definition flatly when answering a mother's question about how to support her son. Karma, he says, "is, of course, completely self-imposed." The instruction that follows is not about punishment or debt — it is about crafting the conditions in which a being can learn through its own choices:

Karma is, of course, completely self-imposed. When you teach your children how to act on their passion, but when you are also acting on your passion in a way that allows you to invent ideas that you know they need to learn and hand them those ideas according to what excites them instead of forcing them to fit in a box, then they will eagerly learn new things… At the same time, teach them to experience the consequences of their choices. Let them actually experience in a safe environment the consequences of the choices they're making.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-16)

The key move is to let the other being experience the consequences of their own choices in a safe environment rather than shielding them from those consequences or forcing them into a pre-made box. This is presented as the way you build within someone a self-guiding mechanism they can use for life — and it is also the clearest expression of how Bashar conceives karma operating across any relationship, parent-child or otherwise: the lesson lands only when the being who made the choice gets to feel what that choice produces.

## Connection guarantees reunion

When asked whether a friendship will resume, Bashar frames connection itself as the evidence that reunion is certain. The logic is tight: if you met at all, a connection exists; if a connection exists, somewhere, somehow, somewhen, you will meet again. The form and timing are not promised — only the fact:

The fact that you met at all means you have some connection. And the fact that you have some connection means that somewhere, somehow, some when, you will meet again. We cannot say exactly how or when, but if you have a connection at all, you will meet again.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-6)

This sits comfortably next to the parallel-realities teaching. Because you are shifting from parallel reality to parallel reality billions of times per second, reunion is not bound to a single linear timeline — it can occur on a different track, in a different form, with the connection re-expressed in a way you may not have predicted. The promise is only that the connection itself, once real, cannot be lost.

## Soulmates and the families of connection

The same session addresses soulmate connections directly. Asked whether there are "families" of soulmates — because the questioner has felt the connection with multiple people — Bashar confirms that there are many kinds of such families and many forms of expression, and warns against assuming the connection must take a particular shape:

There are many different kinds of families and relationships that you might call variations of soulmates. But understand, soulmates can express themselves in a variety of ways, not always in the way that you might think.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-23)

The practical upshot is that the category "soulmate" is broader than the romantic template usually applied to it, and a single being can participate in multiple soulmate-family connections simultaneously. The form any given connection takes is less important than the recognition that the connection is real.

## When someone disappears

Bashar also gives a parallel-realities framing for the relationships that end or fade. Asked whether there is actual consciousness co-experiencing the different earths we shift through, he confirms there is, and then adds that disappearances can be structural rather than personal:

When people disappear from your life, sometimes that can be representative of the fact that you have shifted to a parallel reality where they don't have a version of themselves. Sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-21)

This is a narrow, careful claim — "sometimes, not always" — and it is offered alongside the more general principle that you never change the world you are on; you change yourself and shift to a parallel earth already matching the change. Applied to relationships, it means that a person's absence from your experience is not necessarily a story of rejection or failure. It can simply mean the track you are now on does not contain a version of them, and they may be having an entirely different experience on a track of their own.

## Practical implications

Let people experience the consequences of their own choices. The clearest relationship instruction in this session is to let children, partners, and friends encounter the consequences of their choices in a safe environment, rather than shielding them or forcing them into a box.

This is how a self-guiding mechanism gets built in them, and it is also how self-imposed karma actually teaches.

Trust that real connection is not lost. If a connection was genuinely formed, reunion somewhere, somehow, somewhen is guaranteed.

The form is not promised; the connection is.

Do not force a soulmate connection into one expected shape. Soulmate relationships express themselves in many ways and many kinds of family structures; assuming a single template can blind you to the connection you actually have.

Interpret disappearances carefully. Sometimes a person leaves your life because you have shifted to a parallel reality where they have no version — not always, but sometimes. Not every disappearance is a rejection or a failure to be solved.

Remember that karma is self-imposed. The structure of the lesson is one you set up for yourself; it is not a punishment handed down from outside. This reframes difficult relationships as chosen learning rather than injustice.

## Representative passages

Karma is, of course, completely self-imposed. When you teach your children how to act on their passion… teach them to experience the consequences of their choices. Let them actually experience in a safe environment the consequences of the choices they're making… By giving them the opportunity to understand what the consequences of their choices are, you create within them a self-guiding mechanism they can use for their entire life.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-16)

When people disappear from your life, sometimes that can be representative of the fact that you have shifted to a parallel reality where they don't have a version of themselves. Sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.— Bashar, Four Laws Of Creation (four-laws-of-creation#qa-21)
