# Reality As A Mirror

*A traveler changes posture beside a still pool that mirrors the new stance*

Physical reality is literally a mirror. It has no existence of its own apart from the reflection of your strongest beliefs about what is true and possible. You cannot change the reflection by working on the outside any more than you can make the face in a mirror smile by touching the glass; you must change what is inside. The first relationship is always with yourself, and what you judge as unpreferred in another is a loving reflection of a belief you hold about yourself.

## Nothing has built-in meaning

All circumstances are fundamentally neutral and carry no built-in meaning. The greatest gift you have been given is that life is meaningless — you are designed to give it meaning. Negative meaning in, negative effect out; positive meaning in, positive effect out. Every single situation can serve double duty; the meaning you assign determines the effect you experience.

So when an injury or apparent setback interrupts what excites you, the question to ask is not "why did this happen to me?" but "why am I defining this as negative?" The event is an orchestration, not an accident; you cannot perceive what you are not the vibration of, so only by assigning it a positive meaning can you eventually discover how it served you. The candle flame is visible only because it is surrounded by darkness — thank the darkness so you can see the light.

## There is no outside

There is no such thing as an outside force — there is no outside. You never actually change anything but yourself; when you change yourself in a certain way, you shift to another already-existing parallel Earth that is more representative of the change you made. The other Earth still exists, but you are no longer focused in it. The work is to become a citizen of the Earth you prefer, not to change the Earth you are on.

## Your version of other people

Everyone exists in their own right, but the only ones you actually interact with in physical reality are the reflections you have created to experience in your reality. One event witnessed by several people may be described so differently you wonder whether they saw the same thing — the clue is they didn't. You interact with others through a simulation you create in your own reality; otherwise you wouldn't be seeing them. You cannot have an interaction without an agreement; each party must agree to create their version of the other in order to experience them.

## Relationships as mirrors

Relationships exist for the purpose of reflecting to each other what each needs to know in order to learn and become more of who they are. The first relationship is with yourself; what you find unpreferred in a partner mirrors a belief you hold about yourself. The paradoxical key to change in a relationship is that full, unconditional allowance and acceptance of the way things are is precisely what allows them to change if they need to — unconditional love of what is allows what is to become whatever it needs to be next.

## The shadow of the soul

Physical reality is the shadow of the soul. When you want the shadow to change shape, you change the body that casts it, not the shadow. When you know that you must be on the same frequency in order even to conceive of an idea, and you simply begin to trust that and act like it, then physical reality — the shadow — must conform to the new shape the soul has taken.

## Practical implications

Use your experience as a reading of your beliefs: ask what you would have to believe is true in order to be experiencing what is happening. Once a belief is identified it is neutralized; you can then plug in a new definition and act on it.

Treat every circumstance as neutral. The meaning you assign determines the effect; assign a positive meaning to extract a positive result from what is actually an orchestration.

When bothered by another person, look first for the belief about yourself that they are reflecting. The first relationship is always with yourself.

Stop trying to change the reflection on the outside; change the shape of being inside, and the reflection follows.

Allow what is unconditionally. Bashar's framing is that unconditional acceptance of the present is what allows the present to change — resistance fixes the very thing you resist.

The mirror model is Bashar's metaphysical teaching. It is not a clinical description of perception and should not be used to deny or override another person's report of their experience, including experiences of harm. The model is a framing for self-inquiry, not a directive to invalidate lived difficulty.

## Representative passages

There is no longer at this time on your planet… anything at all that is responsible for any situation in your life but you. No outside forces exist. There is no such thing as an outside force. The idea is that there is no outside… You never change anything but yourself. But when you change yourself in a certain way… you shift to another parallel earth reality that is already more representative of the change you made in yourself.— Bashar, There Is No Outside Of You (there-is-no-outside-of-you#qa-2)

Nothing in life has built in meaning. The greatest gift all of you have ever been given is that life is meaningless — you are designed to give life meaning. The meaning you give to every situation, positive or negative, determines how you experience the effect of that situation in your life… Every single situation has the ability to serve double duty.— Bashar, Nothing In Life Has Built In Meaning (nothing-in-life-has-built-in-meaning#qa-2)

Relationships are for the purpose of reflecting to each other what you each need to know to learn and become more of who you actually are… the first relationship is with yourself… Unconditional love of what is allows what is to become whatever it needs to be next.— Bashar, Relationships Are For Reflection First Relationship Is With Self (relationships-are-for-reflection-first-relationship-is-with-self#qa-1)

Everyone exists, but everyone you experience in your reality was created by you to interact with as a reflection of you. They exist in their own right, but the only ones you actually interact with in physical reality are the reflections you've created to experience in your reality… You cannot have an interaction without an agreement.— Bashar, Simultaneity Of Existence (simultaneity-of-existence#qa-6)
