# Mystery

In Bashar's teaching, mystery is not a gap in knowledge to be eliminated but a functional feature of reality — an unresolved quality deliberately built into certain experiences so that curiosity is awakened and the person is drawn into discovering more of themselves. The pattern recurs across very different subjects (a UFO sighting, an abduction memory, an uninterpreted dream, the structure of All-That-Is), and in each case mystery is treated as a lure and a teaching tool rather than a problem to be quickly closed.

## Mystery as the lure into more of yourself

Bashar frames mystery as the thing that makes you curious, and curiosity is what draws you into a larger experience of yourself. In the dream-context this is explicit: the bugging, not-yet-understood quality of a dream is "the mystery that lures you into more of yourself," and Bashar pointedly asks, "What is poetry without the component of mystery?" The guidance is to trust timing rather than force an answer — the meaning arrives when it is needed, and the unresolved interval is itself part of the function.

The same mechanism shows up in the UFO sighting context, where Bashar offers his "rule of thumb": if a sighting is not absolutely, beyond-shadow-of-a-doubt a spacecraft, then it isn't — even if it is. The point is not to police evidence but to remove the compulsive need to resolve the question. The real gift in an ambiguous sighting is the mystery itself, which "makes you curious, and thus it lures you into discovering more of yourself."

## The watermelon seed principle

Bashar names the dynamic through a vivid image: a mystery that "must be solved" but "can't be solved" — held in stalemate — operates like a watermelon seed squeezed between thumb and forefinger. You are pressed by the must solve it on one side and the cannot solve it on the other; squeezed hard enough, the seed (the unresolved question) spits out in a new, unexpected direction and you discover a new perspective. The new perspective — not the solved answer — is the yield of the mystery.

## Mystery used deliberately: the abduction clue

Bashar extends the principle into a striking claim in the abduction context: the seemingly "wrong" details in abduction memories (being put back on the bed backwards, clothes inside out, left miles from home) are not mistakes. They are clues deliberately left as mysteries, because the beings understand that certain things need to awaken within the person, and a clue wrapped in mystery becomes a thread that follows them through life, leading — when they are ready — to an awakening exactly as it needs to occur. The mystery is a long-acting teaching device, not an absence of information.

## Mystery as a creation of All-That-Is

At the cosmological scale, Bashar treats mystery as something All-That-Is creates in order to be complete. All-That-Is has to be able to create levels within itself that do not know they are All-That-Is — that experience not knowing, aloneness, and mystery — otherwise it would not contain every possible experience and so would not be All-That-Is. The paradox is structural: in order to be the whole, All-That-Is must also contain a part of itself that doesn't know it is the whole. Mystery, from this view, is not a defect but a necessary facet of a complete creation.

## Practical implications

Stop forcing resolution. When an experience is genuinely ambiguous, Bashar's "rule of thumb" is to let it remain a mystery; when it needs to be obvious, it will be. The compulsive need to resolve is what gets in the way.

Use the unsolved interval as a lure. A gnawing, uninterpreted dream or recurring question is doing work: it draws you toward more of yourself. Trust that what you need to know will arrive in its proper timing, not on demand.

Expect new perspectives, not solved answers. The watermelon seed dynamic yields a direction, not a conclusion. The fruit of a mystery is a reoriented point of view, often unexpected.

Read persistent "clues" as long-acting teachings. Recurring odd details in an experience may be there precisely because something in you is being invited to awaken over time, not because the situation is broken or unfinished.

Don't pathologize not-knowing. At the largest scale, mystery is built into creation; the experience of not-knowing is a facet All-That-Is requires in order to be complete.

## Representative passages

In the meantime, however, the real issue here is you are being given an opportunity to experience a mystery. And what does mystery do? It makes us curious, and thus it lures you into discovering more of yourself. … When you have a watermelon seed and you squeeze it between your thumb and forefinger, it's like having a mystery that must be solved, but that can't be solved — it must be solved, but it can't be solved. And so you find yourself in that stalemate, that conundrum, and you feel squeezed by the cannot solve it and by the must solve it. And when it squeezes you hard enough, then just like a watermelon seed, it spits out in a new direction, heretofore unexpected, and you discover something new, a new perspective.— Bashar, Rule Of Thumb For Seeing A Ufo (rule-of-thumb-for-seeing-a-ufo#qa-1)

They actually knew exactly what they were doing, because they created what? A mystery for you. … It's not because they're forgetful. It's because they understand that certain things need to awaken within you, and that if you have a clue that you must follow, a mystery will follow you through your life, and that someday, somehow, that mystery must be answered, must be solved. It will lead you down a path that will allow for some awakening to occur as it needs to occur in your life.— Bashar, Alien Abduction Experience As A Child (alien-abduction-experience-as-a-child#qa-1)

The mystery lures you into more of yourself. Relax and trust how your life unfolds; all the appointments have already been made, and you will keep them unless you spend your time worrying that you will miss them.— Bashar, Let Life Work You Don t Have To Make It Work (let-life-work-you-don-t-have-to-make-it-work#qa-1)

All that is had to create different levels within itself in order to have the experience of not knowing that it is all that is, or whether it is alone, or many other ideas called mystery. And so if all that is could not create the idea called mystery, then all that is would be incomplete.— Bashar, Our Future In The 21st Century (our-future-in-the21st-century#text)
