# Nine Levels of Consciousness

Bashar presents consciousness as a layered structure of nine levels, each with its own job description. The teaching's purpose is practical: by giving each level a clear role, you stop asking one level to do the work of another, and the levels can coordinate harmoniously into the experience you call your personality. The number nine is not arbitrary in this framework — it recurs across the Council of Nine, the Nine Powers, the nine dimensions, and the nine regular polyhedra — but the lived point is that you are always, already, operating all nine levels at once, whether you know it or not.

## All of it is speaking, all the time

When asked which level of consciousness is actually speaking through a channel — physical mind, higher mind, or soul — Bashar's answer is "all of it." The levels coordinate "what relationship, what harmonics it is creating between itself to create this idea you call the personality." You are never operating with only part of your consciousness; the appearance that you use only a tenth of your brain is itself something you use 100% of your brain to manufacture. The work is therefore not to activate missing levels but to recognize the ones already active so they can work together consciously.

## Job descriptions and the diving-mask metaphor

The levels become workable only when each is given a clear job. Bashar frames this as the core therapeutic move: "By giving each level a clear definition of what its job description is, then you have more clarity on how to allow them to work together more harmoniously." Most negotiation turns out to be with the physical mind, not the higher mind, because the physical mind has been loaded with burdens that are not its job and has grown "very, very tired and very resentful" — that resentment is what Bashar calls the negative ego. The ego itself is not the problem; it is "the mask you use when you go deep sea diving so that you can see clearly in the reality you're diving." Its only job is to experience what is happening, not to know how something will happen. Knowing how is the job of the higher mind — "the person standing up on the boat, looking at the horizon, calling down to the diver going, there's something there, go left, go right."

This division of labor is why the negative ego arises at all: it is what happens when a physical mind is assigned a job description bigger than its actual scope. Relief comes from re-assigning the overflow, not from abolishing the ego.

## The nine correlates across the cosmology

The same number nine appears across Bashar's cosmology as a structural signature, not a coincidence:

The Council of Nine. These are not nine people at a table; they are interdimensional oversouls, "each at any given moment representative of one of the nine qualities," and an oversoul of oversouls for the entire solar system. Saturn, through its rings' resonance, is the body that focuses and radiates those nine frequencies to our system; we sense them intuitively and personify them as the Council.

The Nine Powers. To perceive, to choose, to act, to experience, to reflect, to learn, to grow, to transcend, and to forget. Each Council member spends what amounts to lifetimes exploring one of these powers as if it were a landscape. When you use one of the powers — in the apprentice-adept-alchemist cycle — you tap directly into the corresponding oversoul's guidance and feed it your unique experience of that quality.

The nine regular polyhedra. The nine levels of consciousness correlate to the nine levels of regular polyhedra; the nine triangles of the Sri Yantra evoke "their specific and unique vibrational resonances" and, used together as a master set, unlock something powerful — the practical basis of ancient mantra and yantra design.

The nine dimensions and the hidden Pleiades. The seven visible Pleiades become nine when two hidden ones in another dimension are counted, and those nine "relate to the nine levels of consciousness." Their transformation, in this account, involves shifting into a dimension where all nine are perceived.

So the "nine levels" are presented as a single structural fact viewed from different angles: a topology of consciousness, a topology of dimensions, a geometry of regular forms, and a pantheon of guiding oversouls all share the same nine-fold skeleton.

## Density versus dimension

A closely related distinction runs through the teaching. A dimension is like a country; a density is like a state or city within that country — you can have several densities within one dimension. Fourth density is described as the last fully physical level; fifth density is non-physical, and from there the character of reality becomes increasingly difficult to render in physical language. Movement between densities is framed as a change in self-recognition: "the whole process of evolution and expansion of consciousness is realizing that you actually are the level of reality that you previously thought you existed in."

From the fourth-density perspective Bashar claims for himself, the self is experienced as a pattern across simultaneous incarnations rather than as a single track — the sequential model of reincarnation is replaced by a simultaneous one.

## Practical implications

Give each level its proper job. Most suffering assigned to "ego" is a physical mind carrying a job description that belongs to the higher mind or the soul. Re-assigning the overflow — letting the ego only experience, letting the higher mind see the horizon — is presented as the central relief.

Stop trying so hard to be spiritual. Pushing desperately toward a more spiritual state is a contradiction, because the pushing itself implies you are not already there. "Sometimes just relaxing into physical reality can be the most spiritual thing you can do."

Honor pressure when it is doing work. If pressure persists after you have stopped pushing, you may be getting something from it. The butterfly needs the cocoon's resistance to drive fluid into its wings; remove the struggle prematurely and the butterfly never flies.

Read incompatibility as guidance. A food that makes you sick is telling you it is incompatible with the vibration you are at, and may be refining your energy by helping you find who you are not — for many, the path to what you are goes through eliminating what you are not. (This is framing, not a substitute for medical evaluation of any real allergic or toxic reaction.)

These are orientations toward the structure of experience and the division of labor within it. They are not medical, psychological, or dietary instructions; where there is illness, allergy, or persistent distress, qualified professional care remains appropriate.

## Representative passages

It's all. It's all of it. It's coordinating in that sense, what it needs to be, what relationship, what harmonics it is creating between itself to create this idea you call the personality. All of it's involved. It's always all involved... you think you only use 10% of your brain, when in fact you're using 100% to make it seem like you're only using 10.— Bashar, Understanding The Different Levels Of Consciousness (understanding-the-different-levels-of-consciousness#qa-1)

By giving each level a clear definition of what its job description is, then you have more clarity on how to allow them to work together more harmoniously... The negative ego comes from a physical mind that is given more than its job description to do... It's the mask you use when you go deep sea diving so that you can see clearly in the reality you're diving. That's all the ego is. Its only job is to experience what's happening, not to know how something's going to happen. That's for the person standing up on the boat, looking at the horizon, calling down to the diver.— Bashar, Understanding The Different Levels Of Consciousness (understanding-the-different-levels-of-consciousness#qa-2)

It is no mere coincidence, that there are also connected to your reality, the nine levels of consciousness that we have discussed before. This is also connected to the idea of coming from the over-soul level down to the physical level, and it is also connected to the idea of the Council of Nine in a variety of ways.— Bashar, Monologue Saturns Day The Council Of Nine (monologue-saturns-day-the-council-of-nine#text)

It correlates to the nine levels of regular polyhedra that we have already discussed and described. Each of those triangles correlates to each of those polyhedral levels and evokes from them their specific and unique vibrational resonances.— Bashar, Interdimensional Travel And Tesseract (interdimensional-travel-and-tesseract#text)

The whole process of evolution and expansion of consciousness is realizing that you actually are the level of reality that you previously thought you existed in.— Bashar, Discusses Differences In Density And Dimensions (discusses-differences-in-density-and-dimensions#qa-4)
