# The Nine Powers

The Nine Powers are Bashar's enumeration of the fundamental capacities every being exercises in physical reality. They are not achievements to be earned — they are the structural set of powers you are already using to have any physical experience at all. The list is delivered as a cycle rather than a menu: each power naturally feeds the next, and the ninth power (to forget) loops the cycle back so the whole thing can begin again as if for the first time. The Council of Nine is named for these powers because each of its nine oversouls embodies one of them.

## The list

Bashar states the nine powers explicitly and in order:

You have the power to perceive. You have the power to choose. You have the power to act. You have the power to experience. You have the power to reflect. You have the power to learn. You have the power to grow. You have the power to transcend. And last but certainly not least, you have the power to forget.— Bashar, Monologue Saturns Day The Council Of Nine (monologue-saturns-day-the-council-of-nine#text)

The same nine are restated in The Apprentice transmission, where the cycle is spelled out as a chain: from perceiving you choose, from choosing you act, from acting you create experience, from experience you reflect, from reflection you learn, from learning you reinvent yourself (grow), from growth you transcend to a new perspective, and from transcendence you eventually forget — so that you can discover it all again as if new.

## The ninth power: to forget

The power to forget is singled out in both monologues as the most mysterious and most powerful of the nine. Bashar frames it as the gift of a clean slate — the capacity to experience creation as if for the very first time, even though everything already exists all at once. Without the power to forget, the cycle would close on itself; with it, the cycle can restart with the freshness of discovery.

…the most mysterious and powerful power of all, the power to forget. to have a clean slate, to start anew, so that you will have the experience of discovery in the utilization of these powers that exist within you that create your physical reality experience.— Bashar, Monologue The Apprentice (monologue-the-apprentice#text)

This reframes forgetting not as a failure of memory but as an active capacity. Because Bashar's cosmology holds that everything already exists simultaneously and there is only now, the only way to have the experience of discovery — rather than the static recognition of what was always there — is to exercise the power to not-know. The power to forget is what makes creation feel new.

## The Council of Nine and the oversouls

The nine powers are not just a list of human abilities; they are also the organizing structure of the Council of Nine. Each of the nine oversouls on the Council embodies one of the nine qualities, and the Council as a whole is described as an oversoul of oversouls for the entire solar system. Saturn, with its rings, is the body that focuses, disseminates, and radiates those nine frequencies to this system; humans sense them intuitively and interpret them as the Council of Nine.

The practical connection is direct. Every time a being moves through the apprentice-adept-alchemist cycle and exercises any one of the nine powers, it taps into the corresponding oversoul's guidance. The relationship is mutual: the oversoul guides the being in its exploration of that power, and the being feeds the oversoul its unique physical experience of that quality. The nine powers are therefore not exercised in isolation — each use is, in effect, a collaboration with the oversoul that holds that power.

## The power to choose in practice

The only one of the nine powers developed in a Q&A exchange in this source set is the power to choose, and it is developed precisely as a power — something the questioner already has and is invited to exercise. When asked what to do with an obsessive thought that keeps returning, Bashar locates the solution in the deliberate exercise of choice, and names choice explicitly as one of the nine:

The power is with you. The power to choose. We already told you this is one of the nine powers: choose. It does not matter what you perceive. The more you expand your consciousness, the more you will perceive the negative as well as the positive… Expanding your consciousness does not mean you become less aware of the negative; you become more aware of it. But you also become more capable of choosing what you prefer. Just because you are aware of the negative does not mean you need to choose it.— Bashar, Transforming Obsessions And Obsessive Thoughts (transforming-obsessions-and-obsessive-thoughts#qa-1)

The instruction is to stop resisting the unwanted thought (resistance sustains it) and instead keep choosing what is preferred, over and over, until the offering fades. Expansion of consciousness makes you more aware of the negative, not less — the power of choose is what lets you remain aware of both options and still pick the preferred one.

## Practical implications

The nine powers are already operative. They are not goals to reach but capacities to recognize. The work is to exercise them consciously rather than unconsciously, particularly the power to choose.

Move through the cycle rather than skipping steps. Each power feeds the next: perceive so you can choose, choose so you can act, act so you can experience, experience so you can reflect, reflect so you can learn, learn so you can grow, grow so you can transcend, transcend so you can forget.

Treat forgetting as a power, not a defect. The ability to not-know is what allows discovery in a universe where everything already exists. Without it, creation would feel static; with it, each cycle can feel new.

Each exercise of a power taps its oversoul. Using any of the nine draws on the guidance of the oversoul that embodies that quality, and feeds that oversoul your unique experience in return — so the powers are exercised in collaboration, not alone.

Expanded consciousness means more awareness of the negative, not less. The power to choose is what lets you stay aware of the negative option without selecting it; awareness is not the same as choice.

## Representative passages

You have the power to perceive. You have the power to choose. You have the power to act. You have the power to experience. You have the power to reflect. You have the power to learn. You have the power to grow. You have the power to transcend. And last but certainly not least, you have the power to forget. which is the idea of starting a new, starting afresh. The Council of Nine specifically represents these nine powers, these nine frequencies, these nine vibrations.— Bashar, Monologue Saturns Day The Council Of Nine (monologue-saturns-day-the-council-of-nine#text)

The power is with you. The power to choose. We already told you this is one of the nine powers: choose. It does not matter what you perceive.— Bashar, Transforming Obsessions And Obsessive Thoughts (transforming-obsessions-and-obsessive-thoughts#qa-1)
