# Out-of-Body Experience

Fear of out-of-body travel rests on the belief that one will not be safe or able to return. The remedy is vibrational: if you hold that everything you choose to do is done for a positive reason, nothing of a different vibration can even find you, let alone touch you — including in non-physical states. Safety in out-of-body exploration is therefore a function of the vibration you bring to it, not of the realms themselves.

## What out-of-body is, in Bashar's framing

Bashar treats the out-of-body experience as a shift into a non-physical frame of awareness — specifically a fourth-density experience, even when the symbols you bring back are third-density. The body, during such experiences, is typically in delta and functioning automatically while you are unattached; what you experience in that state is non-physical, and the symbols you remember are the personality's translation, not a literal photograph of what occurred. The experience is real, but its content is interpretive.

This means out-of-body is not a special power or an anomaly in Bashar's teaching — it is one natural expression of consciousness, the same consciousness whose higher-mind component is already non-physical. The capacity to project, travel, and perceive without the physical body is described as a learnable extension of the same vibrational principles that govern dreaming and dimensional shifting.

## The amygdala switch and the "pinned-down" feeling

A central practical teaching addresses the common frightening symptom of feeling pinned down or paralyzed during a shift. Bashar frames this physiologically and vibrationally: when you shift dimensions, a "switch" in the amygdala of the brain paralyzes the body so the frequency you are at can be precisely calibrated, rather than your flying off randomly. This is the same switch that paralyzes most people when they dream; when it fails to engage, you get sleepwalking. Beings who guide dimensional transfers know how to use this switch, which can feel like being pinned down but is really just frequency fixing.

The fear that accompanies the paralysis is identified as the physical mind's survival instinct going into fight-or-flight — believing it is being annihilated or controlled. There is, in Bashar's framing, nothing to actually fear: anything you discover in the unknown is more of you, and the presences you sense are most often other versions of yourself in a different reality. The suggested practice is to greet the experience playfully — "howdy there, I recognize you" — which restores fluidity and a sense of control.

## Redefining the experience as your own deliberate act

The spinning, lightheadedness, expansion, or sensation of being taken out of the body feel frightening only because of the definition you give them — the definition that they are out of your control. Bashar's reframe is direct: why not define yourself as the one in control, the one calling the shots, while the guides simply keep you in the hallway? He offers the analogy of fear of flying in turbulence: imagine you are the one flying the plane, and the dips and bumps are something you are doing deliberately. Redefine the sensations as something you are choosing, and the sensations will in all likelihood diminish.

## Screen memories and the test of perception

Encounters during out-of-body states often take forms that are not literal. A frightening being — even one with rows of teeth — is frequently a screen memory, a false front a guide uses to test how perceptive you are about what is behind it. The instant you say "this cannot be real," you have received the message: the fear is also not real, just a story you tell to scare yourselves, only empty air until you decide it is solid by believing in it. Looking through the screen rather than at it is the move that dissolves the fear.

This is consistent with Bashar's wider teaching that beings encountered in non-physical states often appear in the symbolic form most useful for the perceiver's process. The form is reflective and purposeful, not a literal photograph of an entity's native appearance.

## Safety is vibrational

The through-line of all of Bashar's out-of-body guidance is that safety is a function of the vibration you bring, not of the realm you enter. If you operate from the definition that everything you choose to do is done for a positive reason, then nothing of a different vibration can find you, let alone touch you. The preparation for out-of-body exploration is therefore the same as the preparation for any aligned action: align your definitions, act from positive motivation, and trust that the vibration you hold is the boundary that protects you.

## Practical implications

Redefine frightening symptoms as your own deliberate process. Treat paralysis, spinning, or expansion as a frequency calibration you are choosing, using the airplane-turbulence analogy; the fear is the physical mind's survival instinct, not evidence of danger.

Greet encountered presences playfully. Because they are most often other versions of yourself, a relaxed, recognizing greeting ("howdy there") restores a sense of control and fluidity.

Treat the remembered content as symbolic translation. What you bring back is the personality's third-density rendering of a non-physical, often fourth-density experience; do not read it as a literal photograph.

Cultivate the aligned vibration rather than hunting for a "safe" realm. Safety tracks your state, not the destination; the same definitions that align your waking life are the preparation for non-physical exploration.

These teachings are metaphysical framing of subjective experience. They are not a diagnosis, treatment, or substitute for medical or psychological care. Persistent sleep paralysis, frightening hypnagogic or hypnopompic experiences, and related sleep disturbances can have physiological and psychological causes that warrant evaluation by a qualified health professional.

## Representative passages

Do you not simply recognize it as part of the process of how you shift dimensionalities and how others may be helping you and guiding you in shifting from one dimension to another, and that there may be symptoms that go along with it, but so what? You get frightened because of the definition you give it in terms of what you think is happening.— Bashar, Shifting Dimensions During Sleep Redefining The Experience Bashar Nexus Point (shifting-dimensions-during-sleep-redefining-the-experience-bashar-nexus-point#qa-1)

You have to throw a switch in the amygdala of your brain to paralyze your body… This is what happens for most people on your planet, also when you dream. Because if that switch didn't paralyze you, you would act out your dreams. This is what happens with sleepwalking.— Bashar, Shifting Dimensions Throwing A Switch In The Amygdala Of The Brain (shifting-dimensions-throwing-a-switch-in-the-amygdala-of-the-brain#qa-1)

You saw that it was giving you, in a sense, a screen memory, a false front, to see how perceptive you could be about what was really behind it… by definition, your fear is also not real. It's just a story that you tell yourselves to scare yourselves to death.— Bashar, Out Of Body Experiences (out-of-body-experiences#qa-1)

Anything you will ever discover in the unknown is just more of you… those other beings, those other entities are just other versions of you in a different reality, and you're interacting with yourself.— Bashar, Shifting Dimensions Throwing A Switch In The Amygdala Of The Brain (shifting-dimensions-throwing-a-switch-in-the-amygdala-of-the-brain#qa-2)
