# Personality Prism

The personality, in Bashar's teaching, is not who you are — it is the focusing device through which who-you-are reaches physical reality. He describes it as an "artificial personality construct," a three-faceted prism built from belief, emotion, and thought (with physical behavior as its outer expression) that splits the soul's blueprint and projects it onto the mirror of All That Is, where it is reflected back as the experience you call your life.

Anything flowing from higher consciousness into physicality must pass through this prism, so the beliefs held at that facet filter the flow positive or negative.

## The three facets

The personality prism has three components. "Your beliefs and definitions, your emotions, thought patterns, and your physical behaviors… go hand in hand to creating the artificial projection or construct you call your individual personality for this particular life."

In a later formulation, the same three are named by function: "definitional blueprints, activators of those blueprints, and the structures in which those are manifested physically" — belief, emotion (energy-motion, the activator), and thought.

Crucially, the facets are not equal in causal weight: "the behaviors and the emotions and thoughts, all take their cue from definitions and beliefs first."

Belief is the input facet; what you have defined as true determines what emotion activates and what thought takes shape.

## Emotion is the activator of belief

The emotion facet is given a precise job. "Emotion, energy-motion, is the activator of your belief. All emotion is a reaction to something you already believe to be true. If you are experiencing a negative emotion, it is showing you that you have a negative belief about a circumstance; find out what the negative definition is, redefine it in a positive way, and you will start to have a positive reaction." This is the practical key the prism offers: a negative feeling is read as a signal pointing back to a definition that can be examined and redefined rather than as something the circumstance did to you.

## Everything passes through the prism

Because anything entering physical experience must pass through the prism, the beliefs held there determine whether the flow is filtered positively or negatively — even the flow of higher consciousness in channeling. "As it is created, it will always still, because you are physical beings, have to proceed through the prism of the artificial personality construct, and the beliefs within that personality construct may filter some of those ideas either in a positive or a negative way."

Clearing the prism is therefore the same act as opening the channel: "Allowance and trust. This is the opening… of the clarifying of the personality prism, which allows there to be positive harmony in expression between the physical personality and the initial transference point, the higher consciousness, a blending."

A prism clogged with negative beliefs distorts the very information trying to come through.

## Tool disciplines map to facets

The prism also explains why different metaphysical tools work for different people: each tool resonates with a particular facet. "The different disciplines map to the three facets of the personality prism (thought, emotion, belief): shape-reading to mentality, astrology to emotionality, crystal gazing to the belief structure."

A being's choice of metaphysical tool reveals which facet it has the strongest affinity with. The implication is that the tool is not doing the sensing — the practitioner is, through the facet the tool happens to engage.

## The prism is an outer focusing device, not the self

The prism is an instrument, not the operator. "This personality idea… is only your outer focusing device. Your personality is really nothing more than a window or a prism through which your consciousness creates the experience called physical reality." What the personality allows itself to perceive is shaped by the beliefs and definitions it holds, together with the soul blueprint — the theme brought in for this life — but the consciousness behind the prism remains the source.

The same model is echoed in the metaphysics session: the soul's blueprint is "split" by the prism, projected onto the mirror of All That Is, and reflected back as physical life.

## Practical implications

Read emotion as a pointer to belief. Because emotion is the activator of belief, a negative emotion is a signal that a negative definition is running. Tracing the feeling back to the belief and redefining it is the prism's built-in practice.

Begin with the belief facet. Behavior, emotion, and thought "take their cue from definitions and beliefs first" — so the leverage point is the definition, not the surface behavior.

Clear the prism to clear the channel. Allowance and trust open the personality prism so that information from higher consciousness comes through without distortion; this applies to channeling and to ordinary perception.

Choose tools by affinity, not authority. Different tools engage different facets of the prism; the right tool is the one that matches your strongest facet, not the one with the most attributed power.

Stay within ordinary care. The model is an interpretive metaphysics of personality, not a psychological or psychiatric assessment. It does not diagnose, categorize, or treat any real person; professional mental-health care is not replaced by it.

## Representative passages

Your personality is composed of three things: belief, emotion, thought, more precisely, definitional blueprints, activators of those blueprints, and the structures in which those are manifested physically. Emotion, energy-motion, is the activator of your belief. All emotion is a reaction to something you already believe to be true… All circumstances, all situations, are fundamentally neutral, blank, empty, devoid of meaning. No situation has a built-in meaning. The definition you put into a situation, which is neutral, utterly determines the effect you get out of it experientially. Positive definition in, positive result out. Negative definition in, negative result out. It is simple physics.— Bashar, Meeting In San Mateo (meeting-in-san-mateo#qa-16)

Personality being a construction like a three-sided prism of three components. Your beliefs and definitions, your emotions, thought patterns, and your physical behaviors. These three things go hand in hand to creating the artificial projection or construct you call your individual personality for this particular life.— Bashar, Master Tools Of Transformation (master-tools-of-transformation#text)

It will always still, because you are physical beings, have to proceed through the prism of the artificial personality construct, and the beliefs within that personality construct may filter some of those ideas either in a positive or a negative way… Allowance and trust. This is the opening… of the clarifying of the personality prism, which allows there to be positive harmony in expression between the physical personality and the initial transference point, the higher consciousness, a blending.— Bashar, New Metaphysics Metaphysics (new-metaphysics-metaphysics#text)

Your personality is really nothing more than a window or a prism through which your consciousness creates the experience called physical reality… what the personality allows itself to perceive is often built upon not only the beliefs and definitions you have been taught in life to hold most true… but also based upon what is technically called the soul blueprint.— Bashar, The Soul Blueprint (the-soul-blueprint#text)
