# Polarity

Polarity is one of the defining ideas — one of the underlying parameters — that gives weight and structure to physical reality itself. Positive and negative, male and female, light and dark, order and chaos, are all expressions of the same one energy viewed from opposite ends. Polarity is not a flaw to be eliminated; as long as you are physical you will have polarity, and it is the mechanism that lets you experience separation, space, time, and limitation. The integrative move is not to destroy polarity but to recognize that both poles are blended within some level of your consciousness as one homogeneous whole — you contain both sides of any issue, and stand at the center of all creation.

## Polarity as the fabric of reflected experience

Bashar traces polarity back to the very first movement of creation. Before anything else there is the One — homogeneous, unbroken, containing no experience and no self-awareness, because there is nothing "other" for it to be aware of. The instant the One recognizes "otherness," reflection is born, and with reflection comes duality: the One recognizing that all things are made of it and yet appear as something other than it. Polarity is therefore intrinsic to any reflected, experienced reality. Every dimension of experience exhibits polarity, because the very idea of reflection implies a "this" and a "that"; only the form and degree of that polarity vary from reality to reality.

Because this is one of the foundational laws — "the one is all, the all is one" — Bashar presents it as a Law with a capital L that never changes across any dimension. Duality is not an Earth condition; it is the universal consequence of reflection. The way a given reality experiences its duality will differ (profoundly, even unrecognizably, from a human vantage), but the underlying polar structure is part of the template of any experience that can be had.

## The formal definition: positive and negative within the physical

In Bashar's working lexicon, polarity is "the energy that represents the ability or the symbology to recognize positive and negative energy within the physical universe." The companion term paradox is defined as the expression of that polarity: a seeming discrepancy or dichotomy that always lets you know you contain both sides of any idea, and that therefore you stand at the center of all creation, with both poles blended within some level of your consciousness as one homogeneous unbroken whole. Paradox and polarity together are listed among the very definitions of physical reality itself — alongside time, space, separation, and limitation — without which the experience of being physical could not occur.

## This-and-that versus this-or-that

A central practical teaching distinguishes two ways of relating to polarity. The limiting mode is this-or-that: perceiving a circumstance as a forced choice between mutually exclusive opposites, which sets up a dichotomy, a polarity, a conundrum that prevents you from seeing the holistic big picture. The expansive mode is this-and-that: recognizing that all things exist at once, that even within a single exclusive focus there are many ways to view that experience, and that the polar opposite of whatever you are focused on is also present and available. To the higher mind everything is always "this and that"; it is the physical mind, limited by misaligned beliefs, that collapses experience into a puzzling "this or that."

The teaching is not to eliminate exclusivity — focus and limitation are legitimate tools that let you have a physical experience at all. The art is to use them consciously: focus down to have a single experience, then expand back out within that experience to perceive all the options and doorways it offers. Two apparent opposites are never truly in opposition; both must come from the same source, the same center. They are two sides of one coin, and without either there is no coin — and thus nothing to appreciate. The balanced center-point between this-or-that (exclusivity, the mechanism of choice) and this-and-that (inclusivity, the recognition of wholeness) is presented as the place of power.

## Validating both poles rather than invalidating one

A recurring practical implication is that polarity is resolved not by picking a "good" side and destroying the "bad" side, but by allowing both to be equally valid. You have to have chaos or you can't have order; you have to have light or you can't have dark. Polarity extends through every level of existence except the One itself. The resolution of pain and suffering comes from recognizing that all paths and all choices are equally valid, positive and negative; when everything is an equal choice, everything is in balance, and you can experience what you prefer without invalidating — and thereby charging and attracting — what you do not prefer.

This same pattern appears in Bashar's reading of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil: not a story of blame, but a symbol for "staying in the balance point in the center between the concepts of positive and negative experience and creation and belief," where you can validate the full spectrum and then choose what you prefer rather than invalidating what you do not.

## Polarity as a spectrum that dissolves into a unified field

Bashar repeatedly portrays the poles of physical reality as differentiated components that arise from, and re-resolve into, a more unified field. The polarity of psychicness and psychiatry, for instance, is presented as "the same energy in a polarity viewpoint" — two polarized components stemming from a more unified philosophy, in direct analogy to the way physics is approaching a unified field theory. As you integrate, these seemingly opposite disciplines lose the earmarks of separation (being at the mercy of outside forces, being judged) and reveal themselves as parallel attempts to understand the self's relationship to all that is.

The same fractal logic applies to male and female frequencies (the male frequency is the creative expression in an outward sense; the female frequency is the creative going within) and to the personality prism itself (belief, emotion, thought as three corners that, in pure form, recombine into the white light of the higher mind). Polarity, in this framing, is the differentiated surface of an unbroken whole: the parts appear opposed only at the level of the prism, and blend back to white at the center where the frequencies overlap.

## Polarity, direction, and choice

The geometry of polarity shows up in Bashar's use of dimensional vectors. A ninety-degree turn is described as "the most opposite it can be while still giving you a choice" — a one-hundred-eighty-degree reversal simply takes you back on yourself and leaves no choice, whereas ninety degrees lets you go in a number of different directions and still be as polar-opposite from where you were going as possible. Polarity here is not a dead-end opposition but a geometry of available divergent directions: the poles exist so that choice is real.

## Practical implications

Notice when you collapse into this-or-that. A feeling of conundrum, paradox, or being trapped between two exclusive options is a signal that you have taken a legitimate focusing tool (exclusivity) and unconsciously continued applying it within the focused experience. Expanding back out to this-and-that — asking what other options and doorways are present — is the remedy the transcripts offer.

Validate the pole you do not prefer before choosing. Preference is not invalidation. When you allow all choices to be equally valid, you put no charge on the one you do not prefer, which is precisely what lets you experience what you prefer without magnetizing its opposite. Invalidating a pole charges it and draws you toward it.

Balance contrasting qualities rather than picking one. Where you find two extremes — the wisdom of age and the energy of youth, order and chaos, male and female — the transcripts' recurring instruction is to blend them in the center so you hold the positive qualities of both simultaneously, rather than choosing one pole at the cost of the other.

Treat polarity as a condition of physical life, not a problem to solve. As long as you are physical, you will have polarity; the work is conscious balance at the center, not the impossible project of eliminating one side of existence. This is a metaphysical framing of experience and is not a substitute for medical, psychological, legal, or financial care.

## Representative passages

All things that you would call any kind of expression of reality, dimension of experience whatsoever, exhibits polarity. Because the idea is that there is the one, which is, in and of itself, homogenous and contains no experience whatsoever. But within the one is the first recognition of otherness. And that first reflection of the other is what created all that is.— Bashar, Fractals Golden Spirals Duality Polarity (fractals-golden-spirals-duality-polarity#qa-1)

You have to have chaos or you can't have order. You have to have order or you can't have chaos. You have to have light or you can't have dark. Polarity extends in every single level of existence except the one.— Bashar, All Paths And All Choices Are Equally Valid (all-paths-and-all-choices-are-equally-valid#qa-1)

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil really is an understanding of staying in the balance point in the center between the concepts of positive and negative experience and creation and belief. It is up to you to understand how to validate all of that so that you can choose what you prefer, instead of invalidating what you do not prefer.— Bashar, Cosmology Questions Mindboggling Experience (cosmology-questions-mindboggling-experience#qa-4)

Polarity simply will be the energy that represents the ability or the symbology to recognize positive and negative energy within the physical universe.— Bashar, New Metaphysics Definitions (new-metaphysics-definitions#text)
