# Self-Empowerment

Self-empowerment, in Bashar's teaching, is the recognition that you create your own reality and therefore need no force over anyone or anything to get what you require. Empowerment is not the acquisition of power — you are already as powerful as you will ever be just by existing — but the dropping of the belief that you lack it. The empowered stance acts from awareness and allowance rather than from the pushing that betrays a belief in powerlessness. The signature reframe is that feeling caught, limited, or powerless is itself a choice, and the moment you acknowledge it as a choice you regain enough power to investigate it.

## "Caught" is a definition — choosing is empowerment

The entry-level reframe is linguistic and immediate. When you say you are "caught" in definitions you do not prefer, you are giving your power away; when you acknowledge that you are choosing things you do not prefer, you remember yourself as self-empowered. You are not caught except by your own choice to feel caught. So the question becomes: why would you choose an experience that disempowers you? As soon as you acknowledge that you are choosing it, you are empowered with sufficient power to investigate why you would be choosing something you say you do not prefer — and once investigated, the choice can be let go because you can recognize it does not serve you.

The probing tool is the question itself: what would I have to believe is true about my relationship to this situation in order to feel this way? Identify the belief, find out why you had it, and you can change it for something you prefer. You are never caught, never at a loss, never coming up short — those are definitions that do not work. Find definitions that do.

## You always choose what you believe is in your best interest

A sharpening corollary, and a demanding one: you always, all of you, always choose what you believe is actually in your best interest — without fail. So if you can recognize empirically that you are choosing things that are not in your best interest, the only reason you would keep choosing them is an overpowering belief that what you are choosing is better than the alternative. You must have attached a belief to the alternative — even if intellectually you say the alternative would be better — that says it is the worst thing you could choose. Find that belief, detach it by recognizing what it is, and you will move toward what you now know to be in your best interest.

This is why intellectual understanding alone does not change behavior. To know something, in Bashar's register, is to have it in your behavior: if you can walk across the room without hesitating, you know how to walk; everything else is only intellectual comprehension. Empowerment shows up as behavior, not as agreement.

## Only the belief that something can hold you back holds you back

The same principle reads outward as a general law. The assumption that there is something holding you back is what is holding you back. The only thing that can hold you back is the definition and the belief that there is something that can. When you make that a law of your universe — that something can hold you back — you will have the experience of being held back. The empowered move is to treat a visualization as a model for the energy, not a demand for one exact form; know the energy is released, and know your reality will do its best to reflect what energy you are truly willing to be.

## Responsibility is the ability to respond, not blame

A frequent confusion that disempowers is the definition of responsibility itself. Many carry a negative definition of responsibility — reading it as blame, or as something that will overwhelm them — when it simply means the ability to respond. You can relax into knowing that you have never been given more than you can handle; what point would it serve to receive more than you are capable of handling? The only reason it does not seem you can handle something is the negative definitions you color the situation with.

Redefining responsibility as the ability to respond is itself an empowerment: it returns agency to the person, where blame had located it elsewhere.

## Habits become choices the moment they are seen

A common objection is that some choices are partly unconscious. Bashar's answer: as soon as you recognize a feeling or circumstance as a reflection of an idea, it is no longer unconscious. A habit is something you do that you do not know you are doing; once you recognize you are doing it, if you do it again, it is a choice — you can no longer blame the pattern. Your life brings unconscious material to your attention through reflections, circumstances, and feelings that you can use to trace back to what you must believe is true in order to have those experiences. Once you are willing to investigate, the belief becomes conscious and can be worked with and let go if you do not prefer it.

This is the meaning of using your life karmically as a self-guiding mechanism: the circumstances are not failures but evidence — clues to the belief that is generating them.

## Practical implications

Replace "I am caught" with "I am choosing." Naming an unwanted experience as a choice restores the power to investigate it, where calling it being caught gives that power away.

Assume every choice serves a belief you can find. You always choose what you believe is in your best interest; an unwanted persistent choice marks an overpowering belief attached to the alternative.

Drop the belief that something can hold you back. That belief is the only thing that can; a visualization is a model for energy, not a demand for one exact form.

Redefine responsibility as the ability to respond. Releasing the equation of responsibility with blame returns agency to you and dissolves the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Treat a noticed habit as a choice. Once you see a pattern, continuing it is no longer the pattern's fault; use the circumstance as a clue to trace the belief that generates it.

Measure knowledge by behavior, not by agreement. Intellectual comprehension is not yet knowledge; what you know is what you can do without hesitating.

Boundary note. Bashar's empowerment teaching is metaphysical framing about agency, definition, and state of being. It is not direction to remain in unsafe situations, to forgo professional, legal, or medical support, or to disregard the ordinary structures of responsibility, work, and finance.
