# Spirit Guides

Bashar's treatment of spirit guides is shaped by a single insistence: a guide's job is to return you to your own knowing, not to substitute for it. Across the linked transcripts, guides are described as genuinely experienced as separate consciousnesses while also being continuous with your own consciousness, and the test of healthy guidance is whether it directs you inward or enslaves you to an outside authority. The topic is not a verification of any particular guide; it is a description of what guidance is for.

The defining orientation: guides point back to you

The load-bearing statement appears in Creators3. Asked whether spirit guides are separate beings or aspects of ourselves, Bashar answers on two levels at once. On one level — "the self and all that is in creation, we are one consciousness" — the viewpoint of unity is never wrong. On another, what you call a spirit guide can also be experienced as a genuinely separate consciousness. Yet, crucially, "any spirit guide will always only direct you toward yourself. That is their job: to simply allow you to understand that you have all the answers. They are not going to give the answers to you."

This is the topic's compass. A guide that disempowers the person, demands dependency, or positions itself as the source of answers is failing the function Bashar describes. A guide that helps the person recognize their own access to knowing is doing its job.

The dedicated Spirit Guides session sharpens the same point: "spirit guides do their job best when they teach you how to be your own guide. A spirit guide is never supposed to do it for you."

Guides are described as having their own growth and learning alongside the assistance they offer, so the relationship is reciprocal rather than hierarchical.

How guidance reaches you

The Spirit Guides session describes a mechanism for how a guide's presence can be felt. A guide may match the frequency of their own spirit body to "the electromagnetic body you also have, the spirit body you also have," and in vibrating in harmony with it and making slight adjustments, "you can actually receive a physiological sensation of being touched, of being communicated with."

The bridge between physical and non-physical, the session stresses, runs through imagination: "allow your imagination… to be your best guide. You will thus then allow your guides to speak more easily to you through your imagination."

A complementary channel is named in Difference In Answers From Higher Self And Ego. There Bashar says that "your higher mind often and even your spirit guides will often communicate what you need to know through the synchronicities in your life, because in some senses it's easier to communicate with you and send messages through things that are already right in front of your face in your physical reality rather than trying to get something to happen in your head."

Guidance, on this account, is as likely to arrive through the lived arrangement of your day as through an inward voice.

The unity-versus-separateness distinction

The same Creators3 exchange clarifies a subtlety that matters in practice. Even when a guide is functionally a portion of your own consciousness, "you will still feel that that consciousness is not a part of you. Because that is how you need to relate to that idea in order to listen."

The feeling of separateness is not a problem to be corrected; it is the form the relationship often needs to take for the guidance to be heard. The unity-level truth and the experiential-level feeling of a separate guide are both allowed to be true at once.

The Spirit Guides session frames this through the wider metaphysics: spirit is what you are, and a guide's consciousness has "re-expanded beyond the focus of the densification of physical reality," giving it a higher perspective and more freedom from the concepts of space and time.

The guide is described from two angles — as a consciousness that has its own perspective and freedom, and as continuous with the larger self of which the physical person is also a part.

Discernment between guidance and fear

Because guidance can be inward, symbolic, or synchronistic, discernment matters. The companion Difference In Answers session offers a set of test questions for distinguishing a response of freedom from one of fear: "Is the idea based on control or is the idea based on freedom? Is there any fear involved in this response? Is it suppressing or preventing, segregating, disconnecting me from something that I know is true for me? Or is it helping to illuminate the idea of my true self, my true frequency, my preferred reality? Is it judgmental or non-judgmental?"

The same discernment applies to apparent guidance: integrative, freeing, non-judgmental content points one way; segregative, fearful, controlling content points another.

Practical implications

The transcripts support these orientations without verifying any particular guide or recommending dependence on one:

Test a guide by what it directs you toward. A guide that consistently returns you to your own access to answers is doing its job; a guide that requires dependency or positions itself as the authority is not.

Allow the feeling of separateness. The sense that a guide is other is not a failure of discernment; it may be the form the relationship needs to take to be heard.

Use imagination and synchronicity as channels. Guidance is described as arriving readily through imagination and through the synchronicities already present in your daily life.

Apply the freedom/control test. Apparent guidance can be sorted by whether it illuminates your true frequency or increases fear, control, and disconnection.

Become your own guide. The end-state of the relationship is that you learn to guide yourself; a guide who does it "for you" is overriding the function.

Representative passages

On one level of understanding the self and all that is in creation, we are one consciousness, and so that viewpoint will never be wrong. In your terminology, what you term to be a spirit guide will also be in existence in your view as separate consciousness… Any spirit guide will always only direct you toward yourself. That is their job: to simply allow you to understand that you have all the answers. They are not going to give the answers to you.— Bashar, Creators3 (creators3#qa-2)

Spirit guides do their job best when they teach you how to be your own guide. A spirit guide is never supposed to do it for you, but they will be of assistance, and they themselves have their own agenda of growth and learning while they are assisting you.— Bashar, Spirit Guides (spirit-guides#text)

Your higher mind often and even your spirit guides will often communicate what you need to know through the synchronicities in your life, because in some senses it's easier to communicate with you and send messages through things that are already right in front of your face in your physical reality rather than trying to get something to happen in your head.— Bashar, Difference In Answers From Higher Self And Ego A Game Of Chess (difference-in-answers-from-higher-self-and-ego-a-game-of-chess#qa-3)
