# Spirit

Across the Bashar material, "spirit" is not a separate, ethereal part of you that exists alongside the body; it is the primary reality, of which body, brain, and electromagnetic field are physical expressions. The chapter draws the session-evidence into four interlocking claims: consciousness precedes its physical expressions; body and spirit are one energy from different perspectives; what you call the personality is an instrument rather than the self; and so-called departed spirits remain available, with their own broader lives, without being bound to physical locales.

## Consciousness precedes its physical expressions

In Communication With Higher Consciousness, Bashar frames consciousness as prior to physical manifestation, with the brain and body acting as media through which consciousness expresses itself — "the physical brain is not in a sense creating the consciousness. However, it is creating a type of expression of consciousness." The brain is described as "a recording, storage, and transmission medium, like your film, like your tape," in which what comes through "originates far beyond, far above, what is actually physically there."

The same session locates the spirit's first physical expression in the electromagnetic field: "Your spirit is not in your body. That's why your physical aura, your electromagnetic field, is bigger than your body." It is through that field that you "pick up on all the subtle vibrations of communication going on between all of you telepathically," because all of your fields are interlocked within a shared planetary reality.

## Body and spirit are one energy

In Creators2, asked how the body–spirit relationship affects illness, Bashar answers that what you call the body and what you call the spirit "are really simply different manifestations of the same energy. It is simply a projection of the soul in material form." The ordinary human error, he says, is to consider the physical form separate from and less than the spiritual form, "and as such, your body very obediently becomes less." When you understand yourself as an integrated being — spirit and body as one and the same idea from different perspectives — "then your body will reflect the absolute perfection of that spirit."

The Creators3 session extends the same integration to practices of food, sleep, and bodily attention, framing them as matters of belief and body rather than universal rules. The chapter treats this as a health-adjacent claim about belief and lived attention, not as medical direction.

## Spirit guides direct you to yourself

The same Creators3 session addresses the common question of whether guides are separate beings or aspects of yourself. Bashar's answer holds both at once: "On one level of understanding the self and all that is in creation, we are one consciousness, and so that viewpoint will never be wrong. In your terminology, what you term to be a spirit guide will also be in existence in your view as separate consciousness." The function of a guide, however, is uniform: "any spirit guide will always only direct you toward yourself. That is their job: to simply allow you to understand that you have all the answers."

## Departed spirits have their own broader lives

A focused exchange, How Spirit Consciousness Interacts With Physical Reality, works through what the living often project onto the dead. Asked whether a departed mother has been "hanging around" the questioner, Bashar answers that spirit beings have a broader point of view and always know when they need to be of assistance — "but that doesn't mean she's hanging around with nothing else to do. Spirits have lives to live, they have things to do, but they will always respond." Time and space for them is not what it is for you; they can look in, check in, still love you, and still be family, "but they also have lives. They don't just hang around."

The session specifically rejects the idea that a departed spirit needs to live physical experiences through the living. To the question "Is my mother trying to read those books through me?" the answer is, "No, no, no. A spirit can simply understand instantly what's in a book." She does not need to read it through you; "She's enjoying your experience of reading the book. She's sharing quality time with you." The teaching distinguishes sharing your enjoyment from using you as a substitute for experience.

## The personality is an instrument, not the self

A connective claim, made in the Remembering session and reinforced in Creators3, is that what you call the personality is an artificial construct — an instrument that channels whatever energy you think yourself to be. It is not who or what you are; when you are unsure of your own structure, "the fragility in your mind will vibrate and seem to come apart." This is why panic can arise at expanded states: the personality, faced with more energy than it is structured to carry, registers the surfacing of disowned parts of self as a tolerance limit.

## Spirit nature without hierarchy

The Cryptics session brings a final nuance about spirit expression. Describing beings closely aligned with "the nature of spirit," it rejects the implication of spiritual hierarchy: asked whether they are more advanced because they are further in the future, Bashar answers, "We're just different, darling. You don't need to refer to us as advanced." Their coherency is real, but it is not framed as a ranking.

Spirit, in this frame, expresses itself in many simultaneous forms without a ladder.

## Practical implications

Treat the body as spirit expressed, not spirit's inferior vehicle. The integrated view is that body and spirit are one energy from different perspectives; devaluing the body is, in this teaching, what makes the body "obediently become less." This is a reframe of the body's dignity, not medical advice.

Notice where you locate yourself. If "your spirit is not in your body," then lived experience is mediated by an electromagnetic field larger than the body — a frame in which telepathy and interlocked fields become natural rather than anomalous.

Let guides point you home. Whether experienced as separate or as aspects of self, guides are described as serving one function: directing you back to your own knowing.

Release the dead from waiting. Departed spirits are framed as continuing their own lives while remaining available; the teaching specifically relieves the living of the notion that the dead need to use them to experience things.

Distinguish self from personality. Seeing the personality as an instrument — not the self — gives a different relationship to panic, fragility, and expanded states: the work is integration of disowned parts, not strengthening a brittle persona.
