# The Formula

The Formula is Bashar's central practical instruction and the engine of his entire teaching. In its compressed form it is a single sentence: act on your highest excitement/passion every moment you can, to the best of your ability, taking it as far as you can until you can take it no further — with absolutely zero insistence, assumption, or expectation as to what the outcome ought to be.

Excitement is not a mood to chase; it is the physical body's translation of the vibrational energy of your true core self, and at the same time the language your higher mind uses to communicate with you.

The formula is the practical method for living in alignment with that self.

## The three parts

Bashar deliberately separates the formula into three segments because each one is commonly misunderstood or dropped, and dropping any one of them deactivates the whole.

1. Act on your highest excitement. The highest excitement does not have to arrive as a lifelong career or a grand project "with trumpets blowing." It can be as ordinary as which option in this moment — reading a book, having lunch with a friend, taking a walk on the beach — contains even a little more excitement than the others and can actually be acted on.

The option that contains the most excitement and the greatest ability to be acted upon is the first one to act on; excitement is itself an ordering tool, telling you through synchronicity in what sequence to do things.

1. To the best of your ability. This means using all of your skills, talents, imagination, and abilities, and taking the action as far as you can until you can take it no further — exhausting every avenue.

"Ability" is bounded by physical parameters, the laws of your society, and the moral and ethical standards you agreed to live within; what looks like an obstacle in any of those forms is not an obstacle but a road sign redirecting you to the path of least resistance.

When one excitement is genuinely exhausted, you do not stop — you look around for the next option that contains more excitement than any other and act on that, repeating the process moment by moment.

1. With zero insistence on the outcome. This is the part most people drop, and Bashar calls it the most important. Insisting that the result look the way your physical mind pictured it is actually a limitation, because your higher mind may know of a manifestation grander than your physical mind can imagine.

The physical mind is not designed to know how something needs to happen — only what is happening now; only the higher mind knows the true path.

## Excitement as the complete kit

When all three parts are activated, excitement becomes what Bashar calls a "complete kit" — a self-contained toolkit that leaves nothing relevant out.

The kit contains:

the driving engine that moves you through life and gives you energy;

the organizing principle that through synchronicity shows you exactly what needs to be done, in what order, and when — so that whatever does not fit into a given day simply did not need to be done that day;

the path of least resistance — which may look winding and longer than another path, yet because it is the path of least resistance it is actually the fastest;

the thread that connects to all other expressions of excitement, even when they look completely unconnected on the surface — it is the excitement itself, not the appearance, that tells you they are connected;

support, in whatever form abundance needs to take for you — which may be money, but may also arrive as a gift, an exchange, or some other form, and insisting on a particular form closes the doors through which other forms could reach you;

the reflective mirror that, as you act, brings up to your attention any negative or fear-based belief in your subconscious that is out of alignment with your true vibration — so that you can see it, recognize it is not yours, and let it go.

Because the kit is automatic, self-guiding, and self-perpetuating, Bashar says you do not need to push, manipulate, or "make something happen" — you allow it to flow, knowing the kit already knows what works for the unique you.

## The dialogue with the higher mind

Excitement is bidirectional. The sensation of excitement is your body's translation of a communication from the higher mind — a broader view saying, "do this now, do this next, this is the order that works best for you." When you act on that excitement to the best of your ability with zero insistence on the outcome, that action is your response to the higher mind — "I hear you loud and clear."

The higher mind then knows you are listening and can begin giving you more to act on. Ignore the excitement and it has no reason to give you more, "it would be pointless."

Action is required precisely because you are physical: action is how you demonstrate commitment, how you ground the communication, how you keep the dialogue going.

## Telling excitement from anxiety

The most common confusion on your planet, Bashar says, is between true excitement and anxiety masquerading as excitement — or, just as often, excitement dampened down and made to look like anxiety through fear-based definitions.

The discriminator is definitional: in its purest form excitement by definition cannot contain anything that would create a negative experience, so any negative association you have attached to "excitement" is not a property of excitement but a separate fear-based belief.

If you are avoiding what excites you because "something bad will happen," the definition you are calling excitement is actually a definition of fear. The remedy is honest investigation of the belief, not avoidance of the excitement.

The same honesty is the test Bashar gives for any internal reaction that lasts longer than about fifteen seconds — anger, victimization, disempowerment. The question to ask is, "what would I have to believe is true about myself in relation to what just happened, to feel this way?" Full responsibility for the feeling is the litmus test that lets you locate the belief generating it, clear it regardless of what the other person does, and return to the excitement.

## Dropping the picture, keeping the vibration

The practical instruction for the third part of the formula is unusually precise. Bashar endorses visualization: picture the ideal outcome you would love, amp yourself up to the peak of excitement with that picture. Then, at the very peak — drop the picture, utterly, with zero insistence that it has to look like that, happen that way, or arrive by that route. But keep the vibration, the state of being, of excitement.

You have then become the driving engine itself, and you have made room for the higher mind to deliver a manifestation that may be far grander than your physical mind could have visualized.

A direct corollary: the thing that excites you may not need to come to fruition at all. It may only excite you in order to get you to take action, to create the state of being in which something else — the thing that actually needs to manifest — can then crop up.

Never assume that what crops up has to be it; it may only be the thing that ignited you to start moving so you would have the momentum to take advantage of what really needs to manifest.

## The mission underneath the formula

Beneath the formula is a single shared mission. "The only mission you actually have, all of you, it's the same mission: to live your life as the unique you you are as fully as you can."

Because excitement is the body's translation of the vibration of your true core self, acting on excitement is the most direct way to fulfill that mission.

The way you go about it — which things excite you, which skills you bring — is your unique expression of the mission and will never be identical to anyone else's; the mission itself is identical for everyone.

## Practical implications

Start small and ordinary. If you do not know what your excitement is, you are probably expecting it to arrive as a grand project. Look instead at the options in front of you right now — including very simple ones — and act on the one that contains even slightly more excitement than the others and that you can actually do.

Treat obstacles as signposts, not walls. Physical inability, the laws of your society, and the ethical standards you have agreed to are not things to bang your head against; they redirect you to the path of least resistance. Note that Bashar draws an explicit line at legal and ethical standards: he names copyright law as an example where the "but some laws were unjust" argument fails, because laws that protect people's rights differ categorically from laws that take them away.

Use a coin flip for equal options. When two opportunities have genuinely equal excitement and equal ability, flip a coin — both because the kit will self-correct if you chose the wrong one, and because the moment you see the coin land you may discover which one you actually wanted.

Investigate, do not push through, when a belief surfaces. Acting on your excitement will bring up out-of-alignment beliefs; that is the kit's mirror working correctly, not something going wrong. Once a negative belief is identified consciously it appears illogical and nonsensical, you see it is not yours, and you drop it — adding its energy back to your excitement.

Do not abandon what supports you prematurely. If you do not yet believe your excitement can support you, it is not wise to leap from the structure that does — "you'll just go splat." Act on the excitement enough for it to prove it can support you first.

Be open to every form of abundance. You are always abundant in something; insisting that abundance must arrive as money closes the doors through which gifts, exchanges, and other forms could reach you.

Lighten up. "The first step of enlightenment is to lighten up on yourself."

If you are fully in the moment doing what you love, you do not need patience — and so you will never become impatient. Impatience is the symptom of believing you need patience.

## Representative passages

The highest excitement doesn't have to come in the form of a project or a career. It can be as simple as every moment of every day you have a number of options available to you that you are able to take some action on — reading a book, having lunch with a friend, taking a walk on the beach. Whatever option contains even just a little bit more excitement than any other option at that level, that's the one to act on first.— Bashar, The Formula (the-formula#qa-1)

Insistence on a particular outcome may actually prevent a better manifestation than you imagined. When you visualize that ideal outcome and amp yourself up to the peak of excitement, drop the picture, utterly, zero insistence that it has to look like that — but keep the vibration, the state of being, of excitement. Then you are the driving engine that has made room for the manifestation the higher mind can bring that may be far grander than your physical mind was capable of visualizing.— Bashar, The Formula (the-formula#qa-6)

Every moment of your life that you can, any opportunity that presents itself out of every option you have at every moment, whatever you are capable of acting on, pick the option that contains the highest amount of excitement. Act on it to the best of your ability until you can act on it no further… You act on your highest excitement every moment that you can with absolutely zero, and I mean zero, insistence, assumption, or expectation as to what the outcome ought to be. And if you just keep doing that and that alone, then the synchronicity in your life will lead you from circumstance to circumstance.— Bashar, Formula For Fulfillment Of Life Purpose (formula-for-fulfillment-of-life-purpose#qa-1)
