# Thoughts

For Bashar, thought is the least directly creative of the three levels that make up the physical personality. The personality is built from belief, emotion, and thought, in that order of "vibratory solidity"; thought sits at the surface, and belief at the foundation.

This means that the common formulation "thoughts create your reality" is, in Bashar's framing, a shorthand that locates the creative power one level too high. The chapter traces what that correction implies — both for how to read your own thoughts, and for what to do with thoughts you do not prefer.

## The three-level structure

The ordering is stated directly in Beliefs Then Emotions Then Thoughts: "Belief is more overpowering, more able to directly create the reality you experience than emotion. Emotion is more directly capable of creating the reality you experience than thoughts." The session stresses that "top" and "bottom" are arbitrary here — no level is greater or less than another — the ordering is purely in terms of vibratory solidity.

Your Purpose In Life Realizing Your Dreams lays out the same structure at more length. "The third component is the idea of thoughts, your mental side. And so, all thoughts in a sense stem from the emotions which stem from the beliefs. In some senses, thoughts can also generate more directly from beliefs as well, but they usually come through the emotional component at the same time."

Together the three form a triangular structure that determines behavior and action.

## "Thoughts create reality" — and the correction

Because thought sits on the surface, the popular teaching that thoughts create reality is treated as a partial statement of the fuller mechanic. In Through Beliefs And Definitions We Create Our Reality, Bashar says: "Some people on your planet interchange those concepts and say thoughts create your reality. What they really mean is the basic fundamental belief creates the reality. What you believe is true is what you experience. Then your thoughts will go hand in hand to reinforce them."

The practical upturn is that thoughts are read as reinforcements and clues, not as the load-bearing layer. "Your emotions are usually more indicative of what your beliefs are than your thoughts are many times," and because humanity has lived "in analytical thought for so very long," the instruction is to pay more attention to emotions — and, more precisely, to the beliefs beneath them.

## The pointed question

The same source gives a concrete method for using thought to reach the belief beneath it. When you find yourself feeling limited in a situation, ask: "what would I have to believe is true about myself in relation to the situation in order to generate the feeling I'm experiencing?" The teaching is that "all feelings are secondary to belief. You cannot have a feeling about anything of any kind without first defining that thing in some way, shape or form."

A thought, on this view, is useful insofar as it lets you trace the feeling back to the definition that produced it.

## Obsessive thoughts and resistance

A separate teaching addresses the recurring or obsessive thought directly. The instruction is not to push it away. "Anything you resist will always bounce back, because there is nowhere to push anything away to. There is no outside; there is only you." If the thought is telling you to do something you do not want to do, the instruction is to say "no thank you" and keep choosing what you do prefer; if you keep choosing what you prefer, no matter how many times the thought is offered, "it will eventually fade away, because you will have changed your paradigm, you will have changed your vibration."

Two refinements matter. First, expanded consciousness makes you more aware of the negative, not less — but also more capable of choosing what you prefer, so awareness of an unwanted thought is not itself a failure.

Second, the session warns against comparison — "maybe what the thought suggested would have been the better path" — because comparison is a way of spending time focusing on what you think you are missing. "Stop spending time focusing on what you think you're missing and you will not miss a thing."

## Practical implications

Read thoughts as clues, not causes. Because thought is the least directly creative level, a recurring thought is treated as a pointer to the emotion and belief beneath it, not as the layer to argue with.

Use the pointed question to reach the definition. Ask what you would have to believe is true about yourself in the situation to generate the feeling you are experiencing; the answer locates the definition the thought is built on.

Do not resist an obsessive thought; redirect choice. Resistance sustains it; saying "no thank you" and choosing the preferred action again, as many times as needed, is presented as what lets it fade.

Drop comparison. Worrying that another path would have been better is framed as the very thing that produces the sense of missing something; the instruction is to stop spending time on that comparison.

Expect more awareness, not less, as you expand. Expansion is said to make you more aware of the negative as well as the positive; awareness of an unwanted thought is treated as a condition of expansion, not a regression.

These implications describe attention and orientation toward thought. They are not a treatment for anxiety, OCD, or any medical or psychological condition; professional care is not a substitute for any of them.
