# Threshold

In Bashar's teaching, a threshold is a point of passage between one state of being and another — most often between one parallel reality and the next. The central instruction he gives for crossing a threshold is counterintuitive: do not focus on the threshold itself. Focus beyond it, and the crossing takes care of itself. This chapter lays out the threshold-crossing teaching and the practical instrument Bashar built around it.

## Look beyond the board, not at it

Bashar's primary threshold teaching uses two analogies delivered in the same monologue. The first is drawing a straight line: if you keep your eye on the pencil as it moves from point A through B to C, the line comes out sketchy; if you want a straight line from A to C, you put the pencil on A, look at C, and go — you cross through B automatically.

The second is martial-arts board breaking: those who understand the practice do not focus on the board. They focus beyond the board, so that they already see their hand on the other side; when they move, the board just gets out of the way.

The point of both analogies is the same. The threshold — the board, the middle point of the line, the 2012 crossing — is not where to put your attention. Attention goes to the state on the other side.

## The 2012 crossing and arrival at 2013

Bashar applies this directly to the much-discussed 2012 threshold. He frames the work not as surviving 2012 but as building a bridge to 2013 — the state on the other side. The crossing becomes effortless when you focus on 2013 and let the wave you have been riding carry you across:

allowing you to move through the idea of the 2012 crossing of the threshold, to focus on the idea of 2013, and to allow the crossing of the threshold thus then to be effortless so that you can utilize that wave… and simply find yourself on the other side of the threshold, having tipped the scales with no struggle, no strife, no effort, in joy, in love, in creativity.

The failure mode he names is getting stuck at the threshold, asking "what do I do? how do I get there?" That fixation is what makes the crossing feel effortful. Looking beyond it makes the crossing a given.

The metaphysical claim underneath is that the post-threshold state already exists as a parallel reality. Crossing the threshold is not building the destination; it is shifting to the version of Earth already representative of that state.

## The threshold of believability (a related instrument)

A distinct but related tool Bashar introduces is the threshold of believability — a measuring device for where your belief actually sits on the path to a desired state. He tells a questioner who wants to quit his job and become a pilot to start the measurement far in the future, at a timeframe he fully believes, and count down:

Do I believe, without hesitation, that in 10 years I will be only living my dream? When you get a clear yes, start lowering the amount. Wherever you first hesitate, that's how long it will take with your present belief system.

The hesitation marks the real edge of your current belief and points to the specific belief that needs to change. Change it, re-take the test, and the believable timeframe shortens — until it stabilizes at "the natural amount of time it needs to take for your life path."

This tool has its own dedicated chapter at threshold-of-believability; the two are companions. The threshold-of-believability tool measures where you are relative to a crossing; the look-beyond-the-threshold teaching tells you how to make the crossing itself.

## Practical implications

When approaching a major transition, fix your attention on the state beyond it, not on the mechanics of the transition. Bashar's analogies are consistent: the line, the board, the 2012 crossing all respond to focus placed past the obstacle.

Catch yourself spiraling at the threshold. The signal that you are stuck at a threshold is the loop of "what do I do? how do I do it? how do I get there?" Re-anchor on the destination state rather than the intervening steps.

Use the threshold of believability to locate your actual edge. When a transition feels blocked, countdown from a timeframe you fully believe until your first hesitation; that hesitation is the work, not the obstacle.

Let excitement expand step by step. Bashar explicitly permits a gradual crossing: "It is all right to expand your dream of excitement in a step-by-step fashion. You don't necessarily have to do it all at once." The threshold is crossed at the pace your belief actually supports, not at the pace you think you should force.

Ground the work in unconditional self-love. Bashar closes the threshold-of-believability teaching by saying these tools work best when you start from the primary understanding that you are unconditionally loved and accept that.

## Representative passages

If you really wish a straight line from A to C, you simply put your pencil on A, look at C and just go there. You will see that you have crossed through B automatically.— Bashar, Monologue Building The Bridge To [2013] (monologue-building-the-bridge-to-2013#text)

those that understand this practice know that when you break a board, you do not focus on the board. You focus beyond the board so that you see your hand on the other side of the board, and thus then when you move, the board just gets out of the way.— Bashar, Monologue Building The Bridge To [2013] (monologue-building-the-bridge-to-2013#text)

We created a tool called the threshold of believability — a way to measure where your belief happens to be. Start way out in the future… When you get a clear yes, start lowering the amount. Wherever you first hesitate, that's how long it will take with your present belief system.— Bashar, Manifesting Your Dreams In The21st Century (manifesting-your-dreams-in-the21st-century#qa-9)
