# Weight & Body Mass

Excess body weight is often stored energy — energy that has not been flowed into action because the person is waiting to do what excites them the most. Since mass is energy and energy is mass, unspent energy turns to mass and hangs around the body until it is used. Weight can also be created as self-added ballast: a buffer against accelerated energy believed too fast to handle, a way to ground oneself when exploring non-physical states, or a "just in case" cushion. Nurturing roles, protection from intimacy, and compensating for others' judgment are other reasons. Each individual creates weight for a reason that serves them; once the reason is identified and the energy is flowed into action, the mass converts back.

## Why weight shows up: a list of reasons, not a verdict

Bashar is careful to frame the various reasons for weight as possibilities for self-understanding, not as accusations or a diagnosis. The first reason is mechanical: energy that you do not flow into action turns into mass. He plays on the English phrase "putting on weight because you are waiting to do something" — when you wait to do what excites you the most, the energy that would have flowed through action instead turns into mass and stays until you use it; flowing the energy into action converts the mass back into energy.

A second reason is ballast: when you are exploring acceleration, you may believe that without something to hold you down you will become flighty and lose touch with the earth, so you create mass to stay grounded.

A third reason is buffering: the new energy you are feeling within may seem so accelerated that, without a cushion, it could burn you out by the time you acclimate, so you add a little extra weight.

The verbatim session adds further reasons in the same spirit. Someone who serves as a nurturing center for others may take on a comfortable, motherly, "more-than-enough-to-go-around" appearance so that those who come to them feel they can rest and rely on a non-depleting source; the weight is the body signaling that role outward.

The opposite reason is also possible — adding mass to fill the aura so that no one can get too close, a barrier against being touched in the center.

And for someone exploring astral or non-physical states, a little extra weight may be added as a "just in case" tether to the physical plane, a precaution against floating away.

## "Just in case" and the invitation to lighten up

The astral-exploration exchange sharpens the through-line. Bashar tells the questioner that the extra weight they added during years of out-of-body practice was a way of grounding themselves against the fear of leaving the physical — and then immediately reframes it: they do not need it, as long as they understand they can be firmly blended and firmly grounded at the same time. "Just in case" thinking is what makes you carry things you do not need. The release is to lighten up on yourself; the journey does not have to be so serious, and when you lighten up you will be enlightened at the same time.

The wordplay (lighten up / enlightened) carries the actual instruction.

## The connection to excitement and abundance

Because the central mechanical reason — stored energy from waiting — is a function of excitement not being acted on, the topic sits adjacent to excitement and abundance rather than to diet in the first instance. The same "energy is math" principle appears in Bashar's broader teaching that energy you do not flow into action by waiting to do what excites you turns into mass and stays until you use it; flowing the energy into action converts the mass back into energy.

None of this is a substitute for body consciousness or qualified medical care; it is a frame for understanding what purpose the weight may be serving so that purpose can be met directly.

## Practical implications

Read weight as a question, not a verdict. The various reasons (stored energy, ballast, buffer, nurturing signal, barrier, "just in case" tether) are offered as possibilities to consider, not labels to impose on yourself or anyone else.

If waiting is the cause, action is the conversion. Flowing the energy that excitement is calling for into physical action is what turns the stored mass back into usable energy.

Examine "just in case" thinking. Carrying weight as a precaution against a disconnection you do not actually need protection from keeps the precaution in place; lightening up on yourself — treating the journey less seriously — is itself offered as the release.

This chapter frames weight as one expression of the excitement-and-energy mechanic. It is not medical, dietary, or weight-loss advice, and it does not replace qualified health care.

## Representative passages

Since mass is energy and energy is mass, when you do not use the energy and flow it through you by waiting to do what excites you the most, then all the energy will come in, turn to mass, and hang around you until you decide to turn it back into energy and use it… Energy is math. Math is energy. When you are doing what excites you the most, you flow the energy through you; when you wait to do what excites you, the energy turns into mass.— Bashar, Addictions (addictions#qa-7)

When you begin to explore things you think will take you away from the physical where you chose to be, sometimes you will add a little extra weight to ground yourself. You do not need it, as long as you allow yourself to understand that you can be firmly blended and firmly grounded. It is only when you think in terms of "just in case" that you create those situations where you carry things you do not need. Lighten up on yourself… When you lighten up, you will be enlightened at the same time.— Bashar, Addictions (addictions#qa-13)

Sometimes because you may serve as a center of interaction for many different individuals in life… sometimes individuals will take on a comfortable appearance, sometimes what may be called a motherly, nurturing, appearance in that sense, by adding weight to you, so that individual [feels] I can rely on you, there's more than enough to go around, you are a very nurturing source.— Bashar, Addictions (addictions#text)
